From the preface: 'Mr Woodrow Wilson late President of the United States is shown to have said:- "Yesterday" he writes from Gloucester "I rode for nearly twenty miles beside the Wye and of all the parts of England I have seen it has most won my heart."' An illness struck Wilson in 1896 and he spent the two following months cycling around Britain visiting the landscapes that inspired Wordsworth. "Yesterday I rode for nearly twenty miles beside the Wye and of all the parts of England I have seen it has most won my heart". J. W. Schulte Nordholt in his biography of Woodrow Wilson 'Woodrow Wilson A Life for World Peace' published in 1991 by University of California Press states: "Because so much data have been lost uncertainty rules what we know and understand about the serious illness that struck Wilson in 1896… His loving wife believed too that it was good for him to go away and gave her approval. He spent two months travelling through his beloved England mostly on a bicycle. He visited all the shrines of his romantic imagination. Most important of course were the landscapes that had inspired Wordsworth the Lake District and The Wye Valley… It was a delightful trip that did him enormous good for he lived by such poetic contemplation. He came back with his health greatly improved." Harold Garnet Black The True Woodrow Wilson Crusader for Democracy 1946 Edwin A. Wienstein: Woodrow Wilson: A Medical and Psychological Biography. At the time this book was made the original was held at the Berlin Staatsbibliothek but it was moved to the Moscow Library during WWII where it remains. The Visio Tnugdali "Vision of Tnugdalus" is a 12th-century religious text reporting the otherworldly vision of the Irish knight Tnugdalus later also called "Tundalus" "Tondolus" or in English translations "Tundale." It was "one of the most popular and elaborate texts in the medieval genre of visionary infernal literature" and had been translated from the original Latin forty-three times into fifteen languages by the 15th century. The work remained most popular in Germany with ten different translations into German including this one which is in a high renaissance German. This facsimile is in good condition. Printed circular and subscription announcing to Pittsburgh’s citizens a meeting of the Board of Trustees to raise money to hire Gilbert Morgan the second chancellor of what is today University of Pittsburgh. Testimonials give on behalf of Morgan were made by Theodore D. Weld Dr. Miller of Princeton Rev. Breckenridge Rev. Uffold and so forth. The trustees announce: “The undersigned approve heartily of that part of Mr. Morgan’s plan which would impart a more popular cast to the Institution by enlarging the range of studies and yielding a prominent place and consideration to such as may be turned to account in active life in whatever sphere. Our citizens have had too much reason perhaps to regard it heretofore as something which stood apart in lofty seclusion from their pursuits and and sympathies. This erroneous notion will be discarded and a deep interest claimed from all in that which is designed for the common benefit of all.” “The University’s buildings along with most of its records and files were destroyed in a widespread 1845 fire that wiped out 20 square blocks of the most valuable part of Pittsburgh.” Wikipedia Unrecorded in OCLC. unknown

The anonymous author warns fellow taxpayers their hard earned money is being plundered to finance the debts of "worthless and defaulting Rail Road Companies -- viz: The Steubenville Allegeheny Valley and Chartiers." Noted are roads "repudiated" in 1856 and 1857 and an estimate for ones that "will repudiate in 1858" helping to date this piece. The Ohio & Pennsylvania Railroad chartered two years later began to use a station at Allegheny City in 1851. The two lines were connected by a bridge across the Allegheny River in 1858.
