1980rif. 5226London United Kingdom: The Hogarth Press 1980. hardcover. Near Fine. N/A. Leave the Letters Till We're Dead: The Letters of Virginia Woolf Volume VI: 1936-1941 Virginia Woolf — First Edition Publication: London The Hogarth Press 1980 Formatting: 8vo pp. xviii 556. Condition Report: Near Fine. The teal cloth boards are exceptionally bright and clean with sharp corners and unblemished edges; the gilt lettering on the spine remains brilliant and unoxidised. The binding is remarkably tight square and firm showing no signs of shelf-wear or rolling. Internally the text block is immaculate; the pages are crisp bright and entirely free from foxing handling marks or previous ownership signatures. The publisher's pictorial dust jacket is equally impressive retaining its vibrant unfaded colours without any notable creasing nicking or rubbing to the extremities and is now preserved in a clear protective Mylar wrapper. Catalogue Note: This is the first UK edition first impression of the sixth and final volume of Virginia Woolf's collected letters published by The Hogarth Press in 1980. Edited by Nigel Nicolson and Joanne Trautmann this concluding volume was printed in Edinburgh by T. & A. Constable Ltd. The edition features a striking pictorial dust jacket characteristic of Hogarth Press publications and includes a frontispiece photograph of Woolf captured by Gisèle Freund. Finding a copy in such impeccably well-preserved condition particularly with the dust jacket entirely unfaded and the internal pages so exceptionally crisp is highly desirable as individual volumes are frequently sought by collectors looking to complete their sets. This concluding volume of Virginia Woolf’s collected correspondence offers a profoundly intimate and unvarnished glimpse into the final five years of the legendary author's life. Spanning from 1936 up until her tragic death in March 1941 the letters capture Woolf amidst the creative triumphs of completing The Years and Between the Acts while simultaneously navigating the looming shadows of the Second World War and her own internal struggles. Despite these pressures her correspondence with prominent figures such as Vita Sackville-West Ethel Smyth and T.S. Eliot remains as witty sharp and brilliantly observant as ever. Edited with meticulous care by Nigel Nicolson and Joanne Trautmann Leave the Letters Till We're Dead stands as a testament to Woolf’s enduring genius and the indomitable spirit of her friendships.
