Most of our very good books have only minor imperfections such as shelf wear consistent with a new book that's sat on a bookshop shelf for a year or two. Occasionally we may miss other minor imperfections as we have to grade books at speed. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. 1937réf. 157051937. Bell Vanessa. a "colonial cloth" copy London: Published by Leonard and Virginia Woolf at the Hogarth Press 1937. Original jade-green cloth with dust jacket. First Edition of one of Virginia Woolf's longest novels -- and one of the last to be published before her death by suicide. To quote from the dust jacket: Its theme is the passing of the last fifty years seen through the everyday life of separate individuals. The theme is presented in the concrete details of their daily life and the impact upon individuals of all the forces that mould society from fear and love to war and politics. The paths of all these people begin in the 'eighties of the last century diverge and cross and diverge again through the years and finally meet once more at the end of the book in the present day. The volume is in very good-plus condition slightly askew moderate discoloration of the cloth and so is the dust jacket some wear at the extremities notably at the ends of the front joint. But the jacket is notable in that the words "COLONIAL CLOTH" are printed above the author's first name on the front panel in the same color brown as is used with black in the jacket design. The book itself appears to be a standard first edition as does the jacket other than those two words; we have never seen this jacket before. Kirkpatrick A22a making no mention of a colonial issue nor of this jacket. unknown books
200512 cassettes in one case, 8vo., a fine set. Publisher's code CAB 2940; total playing time 13 hours 31 minutes. Chivers Audio Books are arguably the finest audio books available. The author's original text is unabridged, the readers (usually professional actors or broadcasters) are selected for the quality of their characterisations, the recordings are produced to high standards in Dolby stereo and the cassettes or discs are housed in robust 'diamond' packs. Not surprisingly, used sets are scarce and almost invariably ex-institutional copies. Sets in the present state and condition are very uncommon.
