Diamond was born about 1737. Antiquarian sources say that he was of Huguenot ancestry was in Boston in 1759and that he settled in Albany after the American Revolution. However he was in Albany by the mid-1760s when his second ward house and lot were noted on the city assessment roll. In 1767 he was included on the roster of the Rensselaerswyck militia company. He was a member and officer of the Albany Masonic lodge. He has been called a Boston carpenter who was one of the builders of the Patroon's new home north of Albany. In 1771 he was living above the East Manor and was the first clerk of the new town of Lansingburgh. In the years following he seems to have settled in Albany where he lived the remainder of his life. His wife was Mary Mc Lane - the mother of his children. He was member of the Albany Presbyterian church. He also witnessed baptisms at the Albany Dutch church where his grandchildren were christened! Albany and regional resident William M. Diamond probably was his sole surviving son. We seek information on his activities during the War for Independence. After the war he was accorded a land bounty right in conjunction with the Albany militia regiment. In 1779 his first ward property appeared on Albany assessment rolls. During the 1780s and 90s his name appeared on a variety of community-based records and documents. In 1790 his first ward home on the south side of Hudson Street included two men two females and a slave. He also leased a lot south of Wolf Street from the city. Thomas S. Diamond died in July 1796 at the age of fifty-nine. He was buried on August 25 1796 in the Presbyterian church cemetery plot. His will identified his wife but not by name son William two daughters and a granddaughter. It passed probate on August 31. His widow died in 1817. - Excerpted from Landmarks of Rensselaer County p. 120: Photos available upon request. Prichard & Hall hardcover

Makinson joins with Thomas Heinz and Brad Pitt in producing this rich monograph on the Robert Roe Blacker house in Pasadena California the largest and most elaborate of the refined Greene and Greene style. New color photographs provide the first full documentation of the house following its extensive five-year restoration for which Makinson was the architect. The Robert Roe Blacker House is a residence in Pasadena California which is now on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1907 for Robert Roe Blacker and Nellie Canfield Blacker. It was designed by Henry and Charles Greene of the renowned Pasadena firm of Greene and Greene. This house was a lavish project for the Greene brothers costing in excess of $100000 $3.37 million today. Everything for the house was custom designed down to the teak escutcheon plates of the upstairs mahogany panel doors to the linen closets with their ebony cloud adorned keys. Restoration architect Randall Makinson with a specialty in Greene and Greene and James Ipekjian a master craftsman restored the house in 1994 along with an entire team of like minded mastercraftsmen that were specialists in their fields. The building was restored inside and out. Ipekjian was responsible for re-creating the wood work of the lamps and other fixtures; he even traveled to see one of the original pieces in order to make a correct copy. The house was entirely re-wired and re-plumbed the structure upgraded to withstand earthquakes and discreet ventilation ducts were installed. Every shingle was removed and either restored or replaced all timbers were stripped and refinished and nearly all the tail rafters cantilevering beyond the roof line needed to be replaced. After four years of restoration a benefit dinner hosted by actor Brad Pitt celebrated the completion of the project. Gibbs Smith hardcover

1956réf. 50980New York: Farrar Straus and Cudahy 1956. Hardcover. 8vo. Grey paper over boards with gilt spine lettering pictorial dust jacket. viii 214pp. Illustrations. Near fine/good plus. Jacket complete and presentable but edgeworn with small edge chips mostly at spine head/foot and expert archival mends on verso. Attractive and tight early not first printing of the famed U.S. Navy doctor's bestselling first book -- and best of all it is signed by him large and bold in black ink on front pastedown. Dooley 1927-61 served in Southeast Asia in the early years of the Vietnam War; after leaving the Navy under hazy circumstances his anti-communist and humanitarian activities such as ministering to refugees co-founding a hospital and more earned him worldwide fame and he died of cancer at the age of 34; later revelations that he had been recruited by the CIA and that many of the blood-curdling atrocities in this book were exaggerations and even CIA-provided fictions greatly tarnished his image. Signed copies of this controversial book that established his fame and led to his posthumous undoing are quite scarce. Farrar, Straus and Cudahy hardcover

1928réf. 007411New York: The Century Co. Good with no dust jacket. 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. Dark blue cloth with gold lettering xiii 295 pp index bibliography list of the members of the battalion 8 full page b/w photos tipped in. Two tone map end papers showing the routes of the Mormon pioneers to Salt Lake City and the Mormon battalion to Los Angeles. Ex-library with typical markings stamps and stickers. Spine a bit cocked and sunned corners bumped a little edge wear and rubbing small stain to front board that is likely a dampstain. Boards starting to separate from text block along the hinges exposing some of the webbing. Pages slightly browned but text is clean and unmarked. Overall a nice copy. Henry Standage was one of the volunteers serving in the Mormon Battalion during its march from Fort Leavenworth Kansas through Oklahoma New Mexico and Arizona to San Diego and Los Angeles. Professor Golder came across his journal in Arizona and obtained permission to publish it. It covers the period of the march from June 1846 through the battalion being paid off in July 1847. From the Introduction by Reed Smoot: "The story of the Battalion is introduced by a historical sketch of the rise and progress of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints down to the year 1839 when the Nauvoo period of 'Mormon' history begins leading up to the principal theme presented in these papers. Following that sketch are the Church's Articles of Faith and a brief setting forth of its organization and government." This unique event in American history and American military history is also fleshed out by presented letters and speeches of various governors military officers presidents and other people directly involved with the Mormon migrations and the decisions to create the Mormon battalion. As far as I am aware this is the only Army unit ever raised solely along religious bounds. It is perhaps somewhat comparable to the nisei units raised during World War II or the various black regiments raised from the Civil War through the early Korean War.; Ex-Library; 7¾" - 9¾" Tall .
