2009New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. In English. 295 p. This book aims to generate a set of ideas on the East West relations through the prisms of academics and intellectuals from Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina, who had exchanged and discussed their ideas in a conference titled as "The Conference on East West Relations: Past, Present and Future." The Conference was jointly organized by Ramazan Gözen on behalf of the Ankara Center for Thought and Research Center (ADAM) and Ertugrul Tacgin on behalf of the Inter national University of Sarajevo (IUS), and held in the IUS, Sarajevo, on 14-15 February 2008 with a grant from Turkish International Co operation and Development Agency (TIKA). A set of related issues were discussed from different academic perspectives in two panels and four sessions. The first panel focused on historical and contemporary perspectives or the East-West relations, and the second panel on Bosnia Herzegovina's and Turkey's relations with the European Union, focusing on their integration and membership processes. To this end, the Conference brought together representatives from academia, business community, government, specialized NGOs and think tanks from the region. The book includes 15 chapters which are divided into three subject areas: History, International Politics, and Economics.

2003As New English Paperback. Pbo. Mint. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 204 p. Ills. One of most recent initiatives of the History Foundation in the field of history education, namely "Improvement of the Balkan History Textbooks Project", was completed in September 2002. This eight-month pilot project was supported by UNESCO, the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Turkey. The planning meeting in Istanbul (June 17th-18th,2001) was followed by a workshop in Pamporovo (September 8th-9th, 2001) and a conference in Istanbul (November 30th-December 2nd,2001), with the participation of teams from Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Romania and Turkey. The project aimed to bring together academics and history teachers from the Balkan countries; to review primary and -particulary- secondary level history textbooks currently in use; and to propose alternative ways of reflecting the political, social and cultural history of these countries. The main objective of the project was to prepare a final report on the history textbooks and the teaching of history in the five Balkan countries. Sine history education is in a 'transition period' in each of the five Balkan countries, this book at hand, which is the final report of the project should be considered as a 'snap shot' of the current state of the history education in the Balkans.

2013New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 13,5 cm). In English. 213 p. Ills. The 1877-78 Russo-Turkish War, known in Turkish sources by its Rumi date: '93 Harbi, has been thoroughly studied through political and military lenses. The mass exodus of hundreds of thousands of Ottoman subjects before the advancing Russian armies was a major humanitarian calamity, one with possibly more long-term historical consequences than the mere shifting of borders. Despite its significance, it has received relatively humble attention in the pages of history. This book attempts to illuminate a lesser known aspect of this subject, in particular, the general voluntary relief efforts on the part of the British people for the Ottoman refugees (the '93 Refugees). This book covers the activities of both the institutions and the prominent figures of this endeavor, against the background of humanitarian diplomacy. In doing so, it provides the reader with an intimate look into a "compassionate" episode in late 19th century Anglo-Ottoman history.
