réf. 37662In-8, broché, 7 p. S.l. [Grenoble?], 1788.

1814pp. [6], lxxvii, [1], 440, 120 (Appendix), [24] + 8 leaves of engraved plates. 8vo. 220 mm. Foxed, but generally clean and tight. Attractive original full leather Philadelphia binding (marble decorated calf) with gilt tooled title label. The plates include: a frontis portrait of George Clymer (1739-1813), a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution; a small folding plate of The Society's (Prize) Medals; a map of the proposed canal between Seneca Lake and the Susquehanna (at Tioga Point); a plan of a Flax Mill, drawn by Strikland and engraved by Seymour; and other interesting plates of animals and machines. 8vo. 220 mm. Foxed. Hardbound. Very good. Scarce. The Society (founded in 1785) is the oldest such group of its kind anywhere. It's members included some of the best scientific and public figures of the times. They share a growing enthusiasm (in Europe and America) for a more scientific and business approach to agriculture - that would make it more productive and profitable. The diversity of subjects and high level of the discussions is quite remarkable for a nation mired in the War of 1812. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! PA42
