1948This is a very good hardcover 3 volume reference set. Volumes 1, 2, & 3 in the original brown printed cloth bindings, recently released from a major New York museum reference library, with just minimal markings and light wear. All volumes completely clean outside except for small numbers at the base of the spines. Very clean inside too, except for institutional perforation stamps to title-pages, and "Withdrawn" stamps to the back of the title-pages, and occasionally a short number. 1926This is a very good two volume set handsomely bound in later tan cloth bindings ruled and titled in gilt, with only light wear. The original softcover wrappers (front covers) have been tipped-in and inset into the cloth front covers. Very clean inside and out. A little chipping to the front endpapers' top edges of volume 1, otherwise fine. These volumes once belonged to a top New York art magazine and there is one small handstamp with their name to one of the blank endpapers of volume 2, but no other marks.Text in French. The flaw with this copy appears to be a binding error, or perhaps moisture. The last hundred pages are very wrinkled. The wrinkling is mostly to the lower half of the page. It also contains an original sanguine drawing, signed, and bound in at the end of the plate section. (There is a note typed on the title page, after it was typeset, indicating this).
