Excessively rare with dust-wrapper. The third of Junker's expeditions. Junker charted the course of the Congo and its tributaries during his decade in Central Africa. Born of German parents in Moscow he was influenced in his desire to explore Africa by Schweinfurth who drew his attention to the lands south of the Libyan desert 'a region at that time. still shrouded in the veil of an awe-inspiring mystery'. His fascination with the region led him to make three expeditions over a period of eleven years and he is recognised as one of the great African explorers. London, Chapman and Hall, 1892. hardcover
