James Mark Baldwin 1861 - 1934 was an American philosopher and psychologist who was one of the founders of the Department of Psychology at Princeton and the University of Toronto. He made important contributions to early psychology psychiatry and to the theory of evolution. Baldwin was a co-founder with James McKeen Cattell of Psychological Review which was founded explicitly to compete with G. Stanley Hall's American Journal of Psychology Psychological Monographs and Psychological Index. He was also the founding editor of Psychological Bulletin. His work as editor and chief of the the Dictionary of Philosophy and Psychology began a period of intense philosophical correspondence with the contributors to the project: William James John Dewey Charles Sanders Peirce Josiah Royce George Edward Moore Bernard Bosanquet James McKeen Cattell Edward B. Titchener Hugo Münsterberg Christine Ladd-Franklin Adolf Meyer George Stout Franklin Henry Giddings Edward Bagnall Poulton and others. In 1899 Baldwin went to Oxford to supervise the completion of the Dictionary. It is considered one of the monuments of 20th century thought. Baldwin's contribution to this field places him at the heart of contemporary controversies in the fields of evolutionary psychology and wider sociobiology. Few people did more than Robert Wozniak our co-founder of The Book House in Dinkytown Professor of Psychology at Bryn Mawr College for the rediscovery of the significance of James Mark Baldwin in the history of ideas. 1977rif. 182091Dakar: Nouvelles Editions Africaines 1977. First edition celebrating the first meeting of foreign ministers from 55 African and Arab countries along with representatives of multiple independence movements and two banking institutions. This was the forerunner to the first conference of heads of state held from 7 to 9 March 1977 where political and economic co-operation between the OAU and the League of Arab States would be formalized. This work records the addresses given by various ministers throughout the conference contributions from representatives of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa and the African Development Bank and a full list of delegates. As noted by Leopold Sedar Senghor president of the Republic of Senegal in his opening speech "our concern is not so much actually to solve problems as to state them define institutional structures and discover a method of solving our problems" p. 14. With this groundwork the conference of heads of state resulted in an agreement that condemned imperialism colonialism Zionism and apartheid secured $1.45 billion of funding from Arab states to African countries and declared guerilla operations in Palestine and South Africa as joint Afro-Arab causes. Octavo. Halftone photographic illustrations and tables in text. Original printed wrappers lettered in black front wrapper decorated with vignette of Africa in orange and green. Cf. Maitron, Online). Quelques brunissures, couverture défraîchie. Exemplaire non coupé.
