Thomas Milner Gibson 1806-1884 was a British Conservative politician who adopted Liberal views and became an ardent supporter of the free-trade movement. 1916réf. 33664New York: Jul 18 1916. 1916. Very good. - Approximately 107 words typed on a sheet of his personalized letterhead 11 inches high by 8-3/8 inches wide and addressed to James B. Pond in New York City. Signed "C. H. Boynton". Pond's red stamp "Ans'd Jul 20 1918" appears in the top right corner of the letterhead. There is some light staining to the bottom right corner of the letter & the corners of the letter are lightly creased. Very good. It appears that lecture impresario James B. Pond has sought Boynton's help in contacting Russian Premier Alexander Kerensky who Pond believes is expected in New York. Boynton writes that Kerensky's Vice-Premier Mr. Konovaloff has left New York to report back to Kerensky who is in France. Boynton advises Pond that Kerensky's plans will depend on his meeting with Konovaloff. He also gives Pond Kerensky's address at the Russian Embassy in Paris. The background to this letter is clarified in a June 11 1918 article in the New Zealand Herald headed "Allies and Russia. Envoy for Assistance. Arrival in America". The article announces "with the arrival of M. Konovaloff Vice-Premier under M. Kerensky there will be a speedy decision as to what action the allies will take in Russia against Germany.Mr. Konovaloff will probably see President Wilson shortly". Konovaloff was to seek to persuade the allies to intervene in Siberia to prevent Russia passing under German domination. Charles H. Boynton of the Stock Exchange firm of C. H. Boynton & Co. was made President of the American-Russian Chamber of Commerce which was incorporated in January 26 1916 to increase export trade with Russia. New York: Jul 18, 1916. unknown
