Contemporary parchment over boards plainly rebacked with a later strip of paper and hand-lettered label. Some toning to page block but quite clean internally. The second edition in two parts of this immensely popular book of folkloric fables from the "German Aesop" Christian Fürchtegott Gellert 1715-1769. Gellert was an educator and wrote several books of moral fables and poems for a young audience with clear language and simple form based on La Fontaine. He became quite popular in London travelling frequently to England. This sammelbande contains the second edition of both parts of his Fables and Tales first printed in 1746 and 48 along with the first edition of Didactic Poems and Tales from 1754. Si ripercorre la storia della nozione di folklore e delle sue connotazioni, dall'epoca romantica fino a ieri, dall'idea che fosse un deposito di residuali testimonianze dell'antichità di un popolo e di una nazione a quella di patrimonio immateriale meritevole di tutela, passando attraverso le vicende che hanno interessato l'Italia: l'Unità, il colonialismo, le guerre, il fascismo, il turbinio delle trasformazioni sociali che hanno segnato la fine del mondo rurale e l'avvento della società dei consumi e della comunicazione di massa.

2022br. La spada nella roccia è il simbolo per eccellenza della leggenda di re Artú. Eppure la storia del prodigio che consacra il giovane sovrano «per grazia di Dio» - entrata nell'immaginario collettivo fino a confondersi con la leggenda di Excalibur - non figura nei testi piú antichi che raccontano le imprese del mitico re e dei suoi cavalieri ed è attestata per la prima volta solo nel Merlin di Robert de Boron, un'opera scritta intorno al 1200 la cui fonte di ispirazione era rimasta fino ad oggi sconosciuta. Questa indagine prende le mosse da un confronto fra il celebre episodio arturiano e un racconto molto piú antico, incentrato su un pastorale infisso in una pietra tombale, che risale al tempo di Edoardo il Confessore, re d'Inghilterra e santo. Dai romanzi cortesi alle saghe nordiche emergeranno numerose storie di elezione che hanno per protagonisti giovani di stirpe regale in cerca di legittimazione, pronti a sfidare anche le forze oltremondane per conquistare magnifiche spade e completare la loro iniziazione eroica. Sarà cosí ricostruita una fitta trama di rimandi che restituirà uno scenario tanto piú attendibile quanto piú intricato, utile a gettare nuova luce sulla genesi di uno degli episodi piú celebri di tutta la letteratura medievale.
