The screenplay starts at the beginning of November of 1931 telling the tragic story of the family Oppermann in the years 1932 and 1933 against the backdrop of the Nazis taking power in Germany. Artist's book published for Monk's curated exhibition Richard Prince and the Revolution 25 June-10 September 2009 at ProjecteSD in Barcelona. From the publisher's description: "Monk's new book 'Studio Visit' takes as its starting point a number of Richard Prince's publications. Visually similar to those iconic artist's book of the 1990s this publication is also very different from them in many other ways. Jonathan Monk opens the door to his secret studio. For many years Monk has been considered an exemplary post-studio artist working from a small desk a computer and a mobile phone. This publication reveals that he actually has a studio in the traditional sense of the word. 1931réf. 28975New York: Grosset & Dunlap. c.1931. PhotoPlay Edition. Hardcover. Fair in Very Good dj. a solid copy apparently just lightly shelfworn but peeking under the dust jacket reveals an ugly dampstain running along the right edge of the front cover and a lesser one along the left edge of the rear cover although the book's interior is miraculously unaffected; the jacket although browned at the spine and moderately edgeworn shows no signs of matching staining on the verso leading me to believe that it may have been transferred from another copy before we obtained the book. 4 B&W film stills The romantic adventures of a woman in Paris by the author/screenwriter best known for his authorship of "Wings." This story was a bit of a multimedia sensation in 1931 -- the film adaptation for which this was a tie-in was released in August of that year and a musical comedy adaptation called "Nikki" after the main character opened on Broadway the following month. The leading male character "Cary Lockwood" was played on stage by a young British actor named Archie Leach -- who liked the name and became "Cary Grant" when he went to Hollywood shortly thereafter. The book was reprinted under its "Single Lady" title in the "Lost American Fiction" series in 1978 -- using this photoplay edition as its source rather than the Brewer & Warren first edition. The copyright page of this edition by the way states it to be the "Second Printing before Publication" but I believe that to be a holdover from the original Brewer & Warren plates. . 2008réf. 205369Toronto: Art Gallery of York University 2008. Softcover. NF. Quarto. Softcover. Illustrated cover with full french flaps. 175 p. : ill. chiefly col. ; 31 cm. "To Say the Very Least is the first comprehensive publication on the print works and installations by Matthew Brannon. Everything takes place on the surface or just under it in Brannon's work just as everything there is public or takes place in public. The prints exploit their generic relation to advertising and posters but the benign appearance of the illustrations reminiscent of 1950s cookbooks and cocktail manuals is undercut by the fine imprint of letterpress texts which teeter towards inappropriate confessions and unpardonable acts. These texts with their hint of literary genres tinged by noir are little melodramatic scenarios of success and failure careerism and alcoholism substance abuse and sexual misadventure. Each set of prints stages Brannon's principal question "Why are people their own worst enemies""--Jacket. Art Gallery of York University paperback books
