rif. B9780761872511Paperback / softback. New. UnwrittenTruce is a powerful depiction of Black Americans' struggle for equality told through the lens of uniformed military service. Mosley uses superb story-telling personal vignettes and historical examples to show how millions of Americans have lifted themselves from oppression through opportunities gleaned from military service. Collectively these efforts exerted positive outward pressure on American society and by in large has resisted all forms of social change. One of the unique aspects of combat is that rarely are Americans more equal than when thrust into harms way. It has been said there are no atheists in combat; similarly racism sexism and homophobia quickly go by the wayside when under enemy fire.Yet in the 19th century and well into the 21st century America's military policies regarding the use of manpower could best be described as an awkward attempt to balance the requirement to win the nation's wars while supporting a socio-political caste system. President Harry Truman signed Executive Order 9981 on July 26 1948 in response to police violence perpetrated against Black veterans. His actions broke this trend and set the military on the path to true meritocracy. Today retired general Lloyd Austin is the first black American Secretary of Defense in part due to the barriers broken down by men and women who served before him. The armed services fiercely resisted integration gender equality and LGBTQ equality but over time have grown to value America's well spring of diversity as a strategic and operational advantage. Under the Trump administration many of the military's policies supporting transgender inclusion were reversed making the U.S. military one of many institutions caught in the ideological tug of war regarding social change which is at the heart of the present day American polarization. For as far as America has come we still have work to do for Truman's vision of equality of opportunity to become a reality for all Americans. Join this thought-provoking narrative that celebrates the brave American military pioneers and challenges us all to continue the push for a better expression of America. paperback

The primary focus of this book is to provide the reader with a method to discover and develop the latent powers within themselves that will enable them to Rise to their fullest potential. This process can be summed up in the famous phrase from the Havamal Rune Poem "self onto self a sacrifice." The first section of the book establishes the mythic context in which the sorcerer might work their magic. This is followed by commentary on the runes of the Elder Futhark and outlines an approach to become familiar with them. The final section is dedicated to ritual. This work contains ideas to be found nowhere else which are the results of many years of personal learning meditation contemplation and practice by the author. The path presented here is difficult and meant only for those with the desire and fortitude to choose the life they want and take it. Travel well and Rise! hardcover
rif. B9780567685391Paperback / softback. New. Taking on the established view of Chronicles which uses retribution theology - the view that the author of Chronicles re-worked the texts in Samuel-Kings to demonstrate that Yahweh rewards the good and punishes the wicked - Troy Cudworth argues that this cause-effect relationship is maintained primarily through the treatment of the themes of war and temple-faithfulness. Cudworth identifies a division of kings into categories with the immediate exception of David who belongs in his own category as he pioneered the two most foundational elements of the temple cult. For this reason he also won many battles to secure Israel's place in the land. The next two groups of kings can be dichotomised in the following way: those who show faithfulness to the temple cult and its practices and those who neglect it. Based on their attitude to the temple the Chronicler illustrates how the kings either prosper in the land through military victory or suffer attack. Although many kings begin as faithful in supporting orthodox temple practices and thus prosper on the battlefield none of these kings are consistent and persevere in their faithfulness and so their success either stops immediately or they suffer attack. Conversely other kings are illustrated who despite committing some of the worst sins in Israel's history repent immediately after their swift punishment. Across all of these cases it is shown how temple faithfulness always ultimately guarantees peace and security for Israel. paperback
