Best.-Nr. 4022S.l.:: s.n. 1882-1900. . Single sheet of gray paper printed on one side only 9 3/8 5 7/8 inches small chip out of left-hand margin and small loss to one corner; unevenly printed with a surprising number of different fonts and sizes. Unrecorded imprint. It is possible that this notice with the place and date left blank. was for a traveling religious tableau and lecture to be undertaken perhaps in the North to raise money for African missionaries for there seems to be a thread of African-related work suggested in the choice of the men included. After describing the tableaux depicting various elements in the Life of Moses there is scheduled a homage made to two recently dead Baptist Preachers: Edenborough G. Corprew who died in Portsmouth Virginia and Solomon Cosby a Danville Virginia native who died in Abeokuta West Africa aged 31. Both men died in 1881.Also mentioned in the broadside is John Jasper 1812–1901 another prominent Virginia Baptist Preacher best remembered for his sermon The Sun Do Move which expressed his deep faith in God through the imagery of a flat Earth around which the sun rotates. Finally British Baptist Charles Spurgeon is mentioned. Spurgeon a prominent abolitionist known as the “Prince of Preachers” never came to the United States but had a close relationship with Thomas Lewis Johnson the Virginian author of: Africa for Christ. Twenty-Eight Years a Slave—Johnson studied for two years in the college that Spurgeon founded named posthumously Spurgeon College before leaving for his two-year stint in the Cameroons. On his return a sick and grieving widower Spurgeon was one of the many British Baptists who helped him. S.l.:: s.n.,, 1882-1900. unknown

1941Best.-Nr. 0001680SITKA ALASKA AK HAVRE MONTANA USA. Very Good. 1941. On offer is a very interesting very bluntly written detailed World War II manuscript diary handwritten John C. Troy 39601846 from Havre Montana. Using a large 5½ x7 ½ x 1 ¼ premium "My Year in the Army" undated journal with his name and city gilt stamped on the cover Mr. Troy is a character and has quite some personality which he unabashedly shares with his diary. Using the free endpapers he sets the tone when he writes: "Sitka Alaska The home of many fishermen. It has four bars three whore houses three whiskey stores and three cafes. When it's the army's pay day one has a hard time in finding room in any of them." For the most part the book is about 90% diary but as it is undated he uses it as a 'catchall' too - names addresses autographs drawings maps poetry transcribed songs and much much more. He also peppers the narrative with little stickers much like small postcards all of the Sitka area. He writes as little as a paragraph sometimes many pages on a particular day. Beginning with "Here it is the army life and likes and dislikes of it." he starts on April 10th 1941 declaring the "largest hangover of my life" through to late April 1942 all the while in Naval Air Station Sitka. He writes on every facing page and then doubles back when he reaches the end creating a massive 300 pages in all. This is one of the most interesting manuscript relics of World War II we have ever had the pleasure of reading. Overall VG.; 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall; KEYWORDS: HISTORY OF JOHN C.
