1824ref. 19062Leipzig & Berlin: G Reimer 1824. First Edition. Contemporary half leather and marbled paper over boards. Very good; some occasional spotting. 8vo 8 lxxii 104 pp. The introduction by Grimm comprises 54 pages. Grimm's translation of Karadzic's Serbian grammar accompanied by his introduction falls in the middle of the ongoing publication of his multi-volume German grammar and language study. It must be viewed in this context as a related inquiry. Grimm's 54 page introduction is a historical study of Serbian and the role of Slavic languages myth and culture in modern German language and its history. See the Scherer essay on Grimm in Sebeok Portraits of Linguists . vol. 1; OCLC citing only Cornell and NYPL in America; see Shippey "Grimm's Law" TLS Nov. 7 2003. A book of interest when reminded of the 'leitmotiv' of Jonathan Littel's novel The Kindly Ones. G Reimer hardcover books
1969v, [3], 655 pages. Extensive glossary. Bibliography. Index. Illustrated endpapers. Text in English. "The Kojiki, the earliest source book in Japanese literature and history, was completed in 712 A.D. under the auspices of the imperial court. It is the oldest extant book in Japanese and, as its title (literally, 'Record of Ancient Things') suggests, an account of a still earlier era. It is the court's statement about the origins of the imperial clan and the leading families and the beginnings of Japan as a nation; and it is, at the same time, a compilation of myths, historical and pseudo-historical narratives and legends, songs, anecdotes, folk etymologies, and genealogies." - from dust jacket.
