His work has been exhibited at documenta in Kassel Germany as well as in New York Paris London Berlin and Cologne among other cities. A co-publication between Arsenal Pulp Press and three Canadian art galleries this is the first book to document the work of this important artist from an unusual perspective—a collection of some 1200 full-color Polaroid images twelve per page taken by Lukacs over the past twenty years as core referents for his paintings assembled and collaged by Vancouver artist and curator Michael Morris. Lukacs regularly employs a Polaroid camera as part of his artistic process using his friends and acquaintances as models; taking advantage of the Polaroid’s unique characteristics his painterly sensibility is evident in the rich hues and romantic sensuality of these photographs which are strikingly similar to the paintings that resulted from them. The book is physically enormous allowing the Polaroid grids to be printed at their full size. It also features essays by award-winning author Michael Turner Hard Core Logo; curator Scott Watson; gay writer Stan Persky; and Vince Aletti the American curator and photography critic for The New Yorker. Stunning and bold Polaroids: Attila Richard Lukacs and Michael Morris is a remarkable visual and written document on one of the most compelling visual artists working today. . 2010. 1551522950 . 1990réf. 609674Syracuse New York 1990. Softcover. Near Fine. Photocopied typescript. Thick small quarto. Photocopied leaves including those of a manuscript title page and date pages. Velo-bound covers. Bottom four plastic pins of the Velo binding broken else about fine. Laid in is a May 1990 Typed Letter Signed from poet and mystery author Stephen Dobyns to Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Donald Justice sending the typescript along on behalf of Bátki "who talks about you with constant praise. ." Dobyns writes that it is a revised edition of "his original fifty or so translations" with about 100 additional poems. We presume the "original fifty or so" refers to Bátki's Attila József: Selected Poems and Text published by Carcanet Press in England in 1973 and in collaboration with the University of Iowa Press in America in 1976. Dobyns writes that he finds the work "marvelous as poems and translations." It also appears from the letter that Dobyns made these copies himself. Dobyns believes that Iowa still has the earlier edition in print and complications from this could perhaps be a reason that the next collection of Jozsef's work translated by Bátki wasn't published until 1997 Winter Night: Selected Poems published Oberlin College Press. Dobyns also writes a bit about himself noting the upcoming publication of Saratoga Hexameter and Body Traffic a book of poems. An uncommon early edition of a collection by one of Hungary's most famous 20th Century poets with a nice association and possibly containing unpublished translations by Bátki. unknown books
