First published in 1726 Vertot’s history on the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem commonly known as the Knights Hospitaller and later Knights of Rhodes and Knights of Malta was a huge succes. It displays an heroic struggle between the Christians led by the frenchmen and the Infidels. The papacy however was treated with no respect and it was immidiately condemned by the Order of Malta and put on the Index in Rome of forbidden books in 1728. The fifth part contains a chapter with ”Discours sur l’Alcoran” pp 382-416. hardcover
