Den ovanliga första upplagan av Vertots klassiska och mycket inflytelserika svenska historia som framföra allt behandlar Gustav Vasas makttillträde och reformationen med ett sammandrag av Sveriges äldre historia. Första upplagan av detta i utlandet mycket inflytelserika arbete om samhällsomvandlingar i Sveriges historia utkom redan 1695 och trycktes sedan i en mängd upplagor ännu så sent som 1850 utkom nya. Den behandlar nästan uteslutande Gustav Vasas maktövertagande och reformationen och sträcker sig fram till Gustav Vasas död. En fortsättning på franska skrevs av Olof Celsius Setterwall 1176. unknown

René Aubert, abbé de Vertot, historien français naquit en 1655 au château de Bennetot (pays de Caux) il mourut en 1735. D'origine modeste, il fit des études au collège des jésuites et une carrière dans divers couvents. Il rédigea une Histoire du Portugal et une Histoire de la Suède qui eurent beaucoup de succès. Il fut nommé Académicien par le Roi puis continua sa carrière d'historien et publia de nombreux ouvrages, dont le Traité des Mouvances de Bretagne, Histoire des Révolutions de la République romaine et l'Histoire de l'Ordre de Malte. Bon état.
