1993réf. 2403730Polygon 1993. 1st UK thus. Paperback. Fine. The author's first novel published in 1929 details the lives of three women of the Jazz age and how they negotiate its changing social and sexual mores including relationships with a thinly disguised young Mitchell himself. An immensely interesting pre-cursor to what followed. . Polygon paperback

The inscription is in the box and says 'Miss Carruthey - Christmas remembrance from the Author's Father 1907'. The binding has decorative titles and designs to the front board and spine and designs on the back board. It has been rebacked preserving the original spine and repairing the edges and corners. There is general surface and edge scuffing. Page edges are gilted. The decorative endpapers have professional repair at the joints and are quite browned with some spotting. Contents: colour frontispiece colour title dated 1901 preface contents and illustration list pp xvii; title in black and red; text 338 pp with numerous illustrations and designs.
