1903RARE SECOND EDITION of 'The New Ghetto' - a play by the writer, journalist and founder of political Zionism Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), first published in 1897. This was Herzl's first literary work which showed the ambivalence and lack of real security and equality of emancipated, well-to-do Jews in Vienna, and his only play with Jewish characters. Herzl dedicated the play to Max Nordau. Label with publishing details is pasted on title-page bottom edge (Wien, 1903, Buchdruckerei "Industrie"-Selbstverlag). 205x150mm. 100 pages. Half-cloth marbled Hardcover with gilt label on spine. Cover and spine rubbed and stained. Cover corners and edges, and spine edges bumped and worn/peeling. Spine label slightly peeling. Small sticker on front inner cover bottom corner. First several pages slightly creased. Pages 7-28 bottom edge worn/tattered. Pages browning. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare first edition of a play about modern antisemitism by Theodor Herzl is in good overall condition.

Heekelingen e la sua opera a favore del fascismo (finanziata da Roma) viene citata anche da Gramsci in uno dei suoi quaderni dal carcere: “Il prof. H. de Vries de Heekelingen insegna(va?) paleografia e diplomatica nella Università cattolica di Nimega (Olanda), Ha fondato a Losanna nel 1927 il Centro Internazionale di Studi sul Fascismo. Ha collaborato alla «Critica fascista». (Sull’organizzazione di questo Centro cfr le notizie pubblicate nella «Nuova Antologia» del 16 gennaio 1928). Il Centro fa un servizio di informazione per chiunque su ogni argomento che possa avere rapporto col fascismo”.
