First British edition. Because this report was issued over a period of four years it is often difficult to find a complete set intact. Held at Nuremberg in 1945 and 1946 this famous tribunal indicted several Nazi leaders for war crimes. Twelve defendants were sentenced to death three to life imprisonment and four to twenty-year prison terms. Three were acquitted. The tribunal was significant because it affirmed the principle that both individuals and states could be held accountable for war crimes. The actual text of the proceedings contains a wealth of information on the crimes of the Nazi leadership as well as insight into the political and social background that facilitated the Nazi takeover of power. Added to our set are three of the six supplemental volumes issued by the HM Stationary office. The other three record the agreement to prosecute the indictments and the sentence. unknown books
réf. 16000Nuremburg Archive. Archive of 11 original press photos 1945-46 capturing key persons and locations associated with the opening years of the Nuremberg Trials major tribunal for prosecuting Nazi War Criminals. These photos cover the International Military Tribunal when the 24 most prominent leadership were brought to justice. In the end 12 were sentenced to death by hanging 10 were actually hanged 6 were acquitted and the remaining were transferred to Spandau prison to serve their sentence. Notably while the Nuremberg Trials were the instrument of justice for atrocities during WWII they also served as a lasting model for using the international law to answer crimes against humanity and peace. The 11 original Press Photos include photos of Reichsmarshal Hermann Goering seating next to Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess minister of foreign affairs Joachim Von Ribbentrop and Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel The highest-ranking officer of the Nazi Germany. In the back row Grand Admiral Karl Doenitz with dark glasses Grand Admiral Erich Raeder Baldur Von Schirach and Fritz Sauckel. Another photo shows newly appointed Chief Prosecutor Hartley Shawcross who set the tone for the trial to proceed under the rule of law rather than the more popular idea that the trials were vengeance in the spoils of victory. His two day long opening statement included the famous line: "There comes a point when a man must refuse to answer to his leader if he is also to answer to his own conscience". Also photo of is Telford Taylor succeeding as Chief Prosecutor in 1946; as well as witness Kurt Muller during the scene of uncovering the mass graves he helped identify near a concentration camp and defense attorneys for Papen and Hess. Photo of Dr Von Rohrscheid. A photo of RUDOLPH HESS. Photos vary in size from approximately 6"x8" to 8"x10". Most contain a byline verso. Condition good to very good with scattered creases and soiling to verso with some bylines damaged or removed. The photos themselves are clear and arresting testimony to the historic events they portray. Original press photos relating to the trials are rare. The Nuremberg Trials were instrumental in bringing the true extent of Nazi crimes to the public eye as well as set the standard for international justice in a legal setting. unknown books

réf. 667022 leaves including some blanks or pages ruled in ink for entries. Agenda format 315 x 100 mm. stitched as issued uncut. Nuremberg: 1598. A fascinating document of a type that rarely survives: the manuscript account book for the spring 1598 Leipzig fair of Hans Straub I or the Elder 1541-1610 the prominent Nuremberg gold- and silversmith alderman and son-in-law of Wenzel Jamnitzer the best-known German goldsmith of his time. The first leaf bears Straub's hallmark interwined initials "HS" over an arrow pointing upward within a plain shield & also containing the inscription "No. 72". Our manuscript sheds important light on the business relations in the late 16th century between the Nuremberg goldsmiths and their trade at the Leipzig fairs. Our account book is a list of sales orders and expenditures of Nuremberg goldsmith Hans Straub the Elder during the Leipzig Easter fair held in May 1598. While Straub is not expressly named he can be identified by his hallmark on the first leaf. At the fair trade was done in goblets rings knife-sheaths cutlery jewelry gemstones etc. Several business partners are named including the Nuremberg goldsmiths Heinrich Hahn Haan David Lauer and Paulus Koch. As an example of a transaction we see that the council of Halle paid over 33 florins for a goblet. In 1596 Straub was elected Alderman of the Artisans the most elevated and honorable office to which a Nuremberg artisan could aspire. Straub retained this position until his death in 1610. In 1569 he married Anna daughter of the famous goldsmith Wenzel Jamnitzer. On his father-in-law's death in 1585 Straub inherited his casting molds and used them extensively in his own creations. Despite his long period of activity relatively few pieces made by Hans Straub have survived see Nürnberger Goldschmiedekunst 1541-1868 2007 ed. by Karin Tebbe et al. Vol. I p. 409. 1750réf. B4SB1E23SY47Nuremberg 1750. Ca. 39.5 x 71.5 cm. Kept in a white passe-partout. One large etching. Large etching with a spectacular night view of the fireworks display held during the Nuremberg Peace Festival. The festival took place in July 1650 to celebrate the end of the Thirty Years' War 1618-1648 one of the most devastating conflicts in European history. It was intended as a sign of hope for a better future in Europe and particularly in Germany. The present etching may have been printed to spread this message of peace. The Thirty Years' War began as a civil war within the Holy Roman Empire but eventually developed into a wider European conflict. Although fought primarily in present-day Germany it brought widespread disease starvation and the depopulation of large parts of the region. After five years of negotiations the Peace of Westphalia was signed in October 1648. The remaining unresolved issues were settled during a major diplomatic congress held in Nuremberg between May 1649 and July 1650. To mark the successful conclusion of the negotiations a grand festival was organised culminating in an elaborate fireworks display. The present etching captures this spectacular event with countless rockets launched from all sides of the castle. Particularly striking are the burning statue in the centre and the figures wielding flaming swords that surround it.The image was engraved after designs by the German artists Peter Troschel ca. 1620-after 1667 and Michael Herr 1591-1661. It was first published in 1650 with a title at the top and a legend below. The present version most likely dating from the mid-18th century has been significantly enlarged particularly in width. These altered proportions give the composition an even more dramatic effect. The work has been folded in the past the lower part of the left margin has been restored insect droppings in a small area on the left side of the head margin not affecting the etched image. Otherwise in good condition. ART ARCHITECTURE & PHOTOGRAPHY DRAWINGS PRINTS & WATERCOLOURS HISTORY Ceremonial Festivities & Fireworks Prints & Print Series unknown

1946réf. 132911946. Kesselring Albert. Personal diary kept during imprisonment following the Second World War and during the Nuremberg war crimes proceedings. Albert Kesselring served as Field Marshal in the German Luftwaffe and commanded major German military operations in multiple theaters of the war including air campaigns in Poland and France the Battle of Britain operations during the invasion of the Soviet Union and later the Mediterranean and Italian fronts. After Germany's defeat he was arrested and prosecuted for war crimes committed during the German occupation of Italy. This diary documents his daily life during the immediate postwar period while he remained under Allied custody and while the major trials of German leaders were underway at Nuremberg. Entries note visits court appearances and personal reflections recorded during a period when former senior commanders awaited the outcome of postwar legal proceedings. Personal pocket diary for the year 1946 containing 58 pages with scattered pencil entries written by Albert Kesselring. The calendar format volume measures approximately 4 x 6 inches. The entries record numerous visits from his wife Paulina whom Kesselring notes simply as "Liny" and also mark the dates on which he traveled to Nuremberg to testify during the trial of Hermann Göring on February 15 April 26 and May 14. The diary concludes with a handwritten entry on December 31 reading "All's well that ends well!" reflecting Kesselring's outlook at the close of the year. Following the war Kesselring was tried by a British military tribunal for actions carried out during the German occupation of Italy and initially received a death sentence. The sentence was later commuted and he was released from imprisonment in 1952. Personal writings from senior German military commanders during the immediate postwar years provide direct documentary evidence of how individuals connected to the German war effort experienced detention testimony and the legal processes that followed the collapse of Nazi Germany. Slight foxing to the verso of the cover. Overall condition very good. unknown
