1948réf. 164459Universal City: Universal Pictures 1948. Two vintage publicity portrait photographs of French-American actress Claudette Colbert in 1948. One with the stamp of Universal Pictures photographer Claudette Colbert on the verso. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1 1901. Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s and was the first still photographer to win an Academy Award. He went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures where he worked well into the 1950s. Colbert was offered a seven-year contract with Paramount in 1940 but declined after learning she could command far more money as a freelance artist.
