1902réf. 049500Chicago IL U.S.A.: Thompson & Thomas 1902. Edge and corner wear; no dj; scuffed and scratched; corners are bumped and rubbed; shelf worn; front and rear hinges are cracked; boards and spine are faded; some fraying at the head and tail of the spine; a few of the interior pages are torn but present; missing the half-title title and publisher's page as well as the first 4 pages of the Preface; overall still a very rare and collectible used copy! Illustrated front board and spine with gilt lettering. 766 historical and informative pages nicely enhanced by black and white illustrations! "For the small part I have taken in redeeming the West from savagery I am indebted to circumstances rather than to a natural inborn inclination for the strifes inseparable from the life I was almost forced to choose. But to especially good fortune must I make my acknowledgments which protected me or preserved my life a hundred times when the very hand of vengeful fate appeared to lower its grasp above my head and hope seemed a mockery that I had turned my back upon. Good fortune has also stood ever responsive to my call since I first came before the public and to the generous American and English peoples as well as to kind fortune I here pour out a full measure of profound thanks and hearty appreciation and shall hold them gratefully in my memory as a remembrance of old friends until the drum taps 'lights out' at the close of the evening of my eventful life. ----- Sincerely Yours W. F. Cody Buffalo Bill." ---------- from the Preface. Reprint. Pictorial Boards. Poor/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover. Thompson & Thomas

1909réf. 4522Philadelphia: The Roycroft Press 1909. First Edition. 8vo 9" x 7" 8 42pp. Letterpress printed brown wrappers with brown and red lettering and embossed illustration. Leather string tie bound via three punch holes. Interesting and scarce custom print job by The Roycroft Press to commemorate a dinner sponsored by Rodman Wanamaker. The purpose of this gathering was to propose the building of a large statue of a Native American at the New York Harbor in the effort to honor and preserve the culture and heritage of the North American Indian. The dinner also honored Buffalo Bill who spoke to those efforts of preservation. Other attendees included Frederick Remington Pawnee Bill and Homer Davenport. Beautifully designed the booklet contains two mounted photographs and is printed in red and black throughout with initials designed by Dard Hunter. The limitation is likely that of the number of attendees of the dinner plus a few extra Paul Jackson roycroftbooks. Very good with chipping and wear to edges of wraps with triangle chip to upper corner of rear cover and blank endpaper. Clean and sound internally. Not in McKenna. The Roycroft Press unknown
