The first of these four essays explores the genesis and significance of Oznam?s mid-19th century interpretation of Dante. Ozanam illustrated the centrality of 13th century Catholic philosophy to the ?Divina Commedia? demonstrating how philosophy assumes poetic form with its own language and structure. The other essays comprise a re-examination of Mazzini?s political interpretation of Dante and two 'lecturae' (Purg. XVI and Par. He also published trigonometric and logarithmic tables which were more accurate than existing ones. In a contemporary full calf binding. Rebacked with the original boards preserved. Externally very smart. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright. Former owner's inscription to the title page dated 1800. Their last name has been excised. Small hole to the rear endpaper.
