Quarto in jacket 526p bibliographical references and indexes. Editor Naldini 1929–2020 was Pasolini's first cousin who grew up alongside him in Casarsa and translated by Stuart Hood. The volume runs to 526 annotated pages. It follows the young poet from 1940 until his move to Rome in the early 1950s. During these years Pasolini was a student in Bologna edited a small journal and wrote and taught in Friuli while composing his first poems in Friulian dialect. The letters show his literary and psychological development and include some of his earliest verse. Naldini's introduction quotes at length from the Quaderni rossi Pasolini's early diaries. The most affecting letters are those to Silvana Mauri who was in love with him and those written after his brother Guido's death.
