1927ref. 4683El Paso 1927. Very good. iv742v-viii pp. Original photographic wrappers with cloth tape spine. Light wear and soiling internally clean. The purported autobiography of Cuauhtemoc the last Aztec emperor as received by a medium. Cuauhtemoc surrendered to Hernan Cortes and was later tortured in an attempt to extort further riches from the Aztec. Interestingly the work seems to be channeling Cortes' perspective as he is the credited party at the end signing off "Adios y que al volver sea para cumplir nuestros ofrecimientos llenos del amor con que os distingue vuestro hermano." The final few pages are dedicated to the methods and talents of the medium Benjamin Salazar. Two copies in OCLC at the University of Texas El Paso and the Instituto Tecnologico in Mexico. unknown
1962ref. 10289Vista CA: Borderland Sciences Research Associates 1962. Second edition. Quarto 130; 28; 34; 38; 35 1; 30; 35 1; 30; 28; 32pp. Thirteen parts each with its own cover sheet and index on various color and thickness of stock; complete as issued. Original two-brad paper folder binding. Very clean. Included are 3 relevant issues of Mystic Magazine: August 1954 February and June 1955 on Mark Probert. A complete series of transcripts of thirteen seances held in September of 1946-February of 1949. Meade Layne occultist and founder of the Borderland Sciences Research Associates came to prominence when a story recorded in his newsletter "Round Robin" was broadcast via the wire service. Layne claimed he knew a medium ex-vaudeville star Mark Probert who was communicating telepathically with people in a space ship. Probert also became quite popular in his channeling of an "Inner Circle" that included Lao-Tse Michael Faraday Thomas Carlyle and Yada di Shi'ite a supposed 500000 year old Himalayan priest. Layne and Probert were a bit ahead of the UFO craze of the 50s and their theories that flying saucers were not extraterrestrial but rather materialized from a parallel plane became central in what would later be known as the interdimensional UFO hypothesis. The original memoranda were issued from San Diego and Borderland Sciences was operating from Vista by the late 1950s so these are likely the second printing of these transcriptions and perhaps the first collected edition. In any event these are quite scarce with OCLC citing no physical holdings. An important group of writings from an early duo who were quite influential in advancing ufology. . Private library card adhered to front pastedown pg. 281 with a vertical tear in the middle but no text lost. Very good. Wonderful copy of one of Emma Hardinge Britten's strangest but most important works in the modern spiritualist movement. Britten 1823-1899 was a central figure in 19th century spiritualism speaking internationally and publishing books and periodicals which helped shape the movement both in America and Britain. Ghost Land is an occult narrative presented as autobiography of the mysterious "Chevalier Louis de B" who at a young age is initiated into a German secret society which experiments in séance clairvoyance spirit obsession astral travel and travels to secret temples in India. These fantastic adventures which are vividly detailed by Britten underscore her argument that modern Spiritualism is just one part of a larger and much older occult practice. This copy with a remarkable Spiritualist association inscribed shortly after publication: "Mrs. L. H. T. Dexter-Please accept with love and good wishes from your friend Annie Lord Chamberlain. Chicago Ill. July 12th 1877." Chamberlain 1842-1920 was a celebrated physical and musical medium whose séances featured instruments reportedly playing without visible assistance spirit writing voices and materialized flowers; Britten published a biographical sketch of her in The Western Star in 1872. The recipient Mrs. L.H.T. Dexter was herself an early Spiritualist organizer and one of the founders of the First Spiritualist Society of Ionia Michigan in 1868. A very scarce book to begin with and this copy with direct ties to the Midwestern spiritualist movement of the 19th century. Published for the Editor unknown
1853ref. 1948081853-54. Satanic wonders and prophetic signs A representative collection debating the origin and veracity of the phenomena written from religious experimental and spiritualist perspectives. "Table-turning became a fashionable diversion and was practised all over the country in the year 1853" Encyclopedia Britannica. Interest in table-turning surged in the early 1850s as part of the wider Victorian spiritualist movement. The phenomenon also became an arena for the scientific scrutiny of spiritualism most famously in Michael Faraday's 1853 study in which he experimentally determined whether the table or the sitters' hands moved first. He concluded that the movement resulted from involuntary muscular action caused by the sitters' expectations a phenomenon now known as the ideomotor response. Others attributed it either to spirits of the dead or to satanic ruses intended to tempt Christians. The pamphlets comprise: i BANTON George. Table Moving by the Power of the Will: Similar Manifestations Obtained by the Divining Ring; Being a Statement of Original Experiments Reprinted from the "Kentish Independent" Newspaper. With Additional Observations. 1853. First separate edition. ii GILLSON E. Table-Talking; Disclosures of Satanic Wonders & Prophetic Signs. A Word for the Wise. 1853. First edition second printing. iii GODFREY N. S. Table-Moving Tested. And Proved to Be The Result of Satanic Agency. 1853. Third edition. iv MORGAN R. C. An Inquiry Into Table-Miracles Their Cause Character and Consequence. 1854. Second edition. 4 works small octavo. Original blue and green printed wrappers sewn at folds. Contemporary ownership signatures of one I. M. Herries on front wrappers of Banton Gillson and Morgan. Wrappers lightly soiled and toned contents clean: in very good condition. unknown

1854No Date [1854] 1st edition. Original Green Cloth with embossed gilt illustrated front board & spine Small 8vo, [i]-x, [11]-282 pages; with 6 pages of undated ads. Includes 2 dramatic frontispieces separated by a tissue guard, one shows casting out the evil spirits, the other shows table tipping (reproduced in gilt on the front cover), both with attractive young women at the center. Published just 6 years after the founding of the Spritualist movement in America. Spiritualists often set March 31, 1848, as the beginning of their movement. On that date, Kate and Margaret Fox, of Hydesville, New York, reported that they had made contact with a spirit that was later claimed to be the spirit of a murdered peddler whose body was found in the house, though no record of such a person was ever found. The spirit was said to have communicated through rapping noises, audible to onlookers. The evidence of the senses appealed to practically-minded Americans, and the Fox sisters became a sensation .many early participants in Spiritualism were radical Quakers and others involved in the mid-nineteenth-century reforming movement. These reformers were uncomfortable with more prominent churches because those churches did little to fight slavery and even less to advance the cause of women's rights. Such links with reform movements, often radically socialist, had already been prepared in the 1840s, as the example of Andrew Jackson Davis shows. After 1848, many socialists became ardent spiritualists or occultists. Socialist ideas, especially in the Fourierist vein, exerted a decisive influence on Kardec and other Spiritists (Wikipedia). Only one copy has appeared at a major auction house in the last 100 years. OCLC: 504493987. OCLC lists only 1 copy worldwide (British Library). Rear board also attractively embossed. Spine sunned, occasional light foxing. Very Good Condition. An excellent attractive copy of this exceedingly rare book. (AC-22-20)

1935Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript book of the registers of the conjurations sessions by the first Turkish spiritualist group. 20x15 cm. In Ottoman script (Turkish with Arabic letters). [154] p., several hand-drawn ills. Group has Bedri Ruhselman, (1898-1960), Albert Braun, (Violinist and Ruhselman's violin teacher of German origin), Hans Ianma (Violin teacher), Hasan Saadeddin Bey, (Turkish spiritualist), and Doctor Zühdü Riza Bey, (Turkish musician, Kemençe teacher, a friend of Sadeddin Arel). Dr. Bedri Ruhselman (1898-1960), the founder of NeoSpiritism and "the Experimental New Spiritism". Ruhselman's point of view and a new perspective to the concepts such as creation, spirit, afterlife, birth incarnation, and rebirth-reincarnation are pioneers in the Early Turkish Republican period. Ruhselman's empirical perspective on "afterlife", one of the most important and primary subjects of theology, has made important contributions to spiritism, out of the classical standpoint. (Source: Ruhselman and his metaphysical vision, Kestel). Albert Braun was Ruhselman's violin teacher and his friend. It's said this early spiritualist group is the pioneer and elitist of Neo-Spiritualism in Turkey. He is considered a Mission Medium, a very rare category within spiritual mediumship. By definition, every medium has a varying degree of ability to tune in to spiritual "frequencies". But not all "reception" (coming from those frequencies) convey a meaningful message (sometimes if any). While mediumship is a gift (meaning that; one either has it or not); very few mediums are actually knowledgeable in spiritual matters. They simply transfer what they capture from their sensitive channels. And once in a while, mainstream media picks on certain mediums, especially when he/she delivers sensational predictions (i.e. Edgar Cayce). Bedri Ruhselman's both interest and gift was manifested since his early childhood. He was conducting spiritual sessions when he was only 12 years old. While continuing his musical education in the Prague Conservatory, in the 1920s, he studied the pioneers of classic spiritualism like Allen Kardec, Gustave Geley, Charles Richet, Leon Denis, William Crooks and become experienced in hypnotism and spiritual sessions. He also completed his medical education and graduated as a medical doctor. In 1950 by establishing Metapsychic Investigations and Scientific Research Society, he gifted an institutional identity to Neo-Spiritualism. His true duty started in 1958 by means of spiritual sessions with a guide being from higher spiritual plans which identified itself as "The Master". Ruhselman and his carefully selected mediums received a vast amount of knowledge via these sessions during a few months. That body of knowledge has been compiled as a book, which Ruhselman never claimed any ownership (stating that it's purely a gift from the higher spiritual plan). The plan has instructed that; the book was only to be released in the future - to be identified by a certain sign. That point alone commends recognition for pure selfless devotion towards undertaken duty. If the ego was in play; one would usually do anything for fame or at least to cash on the subject. But Ruhselman completes his true duty and hands over the book for safekeeping without ever mentioning one word about the content. He passes away a few months after (1960). (Source: Indication23). This manuscript includes their registers of the conjurations sessions with some illustrations which have "table order" of the sessions at a house in Sisli, Istanbul. In the illustrations, given the locations of the goods in the room like piano, wardrobe, chair, etc. Registers including the sessions between the years of 1935-1936. Scripts were written by M. Zühdü Pektas mostly, by various fountain pens with blue and black inks. Some registers are taken by a pencil. An extremely rare stylish manuscript. Unpublished.
