First printing of an importent paper in the history of photochemistry as he here discovered some effects of coloured rays of the solar spectrum."Edmund Becquerel seems to be the first person to observe in 1840 in the paper offered that the latent daguerreotype image which had been underexposed could be intensified if re-exposed to the yellow and red rays of the spectrum and then developed with mercury. Explaining this phenomenon Becquerel called the yellow-red continuing rays "rayon continuateurs" in contrast to the primary rays which exicited or produced the light image and which he called exiciting rays "rayons excitateurs". They are dependent on the wave lenght of the light."Eder "History of Photography" pp. 265 ff."Becquerel was an early experimenter in photography. In 1840 he discovered that the silver halides natively insensitive to red and yellow light became sensitive to that part of the spectrum in proportion to their exposure to blue violet and ultraviolet light allowing Daguerreotypes and other photographic materials to be developed by bathing in strong red or yellow light rather than by chemical treatment. In practice this technique was rarely used." Wikipedia. unknown

Inspired by Horace Greeley’s Tribune trumpeting the California gold discovery Dr. Halsey and several friends after catching a Broadway production of “California and the Gold Diggings” organized pooled their money and set out for Panama. While waiting to sail from Panama City he notes a cargo of 200 gold ingots each weight 150 lbs. enroute from California. After arriving in San Francisco June 4 1849 the group experience the wild gambling dens hyper-inflation and head for Sacramento and the diggings at Big Bar on the Middle Fork of the American River. Even though Halsey tries to break off from the Company and speculate in real estate and set up a medical practice the company refuse to release him and they actually succeed in pulling 20-36 ounces a day from their diggings. After making back their investment and a little more he decides the area is over-saturated with doctors and returns to Unadilla NY. See: Kurutz California Gold Rush 308. At this time he also took on the job as scenarist-director at the Great Wall Movie Enterprises Ltd. and Phoenix Film Company in the late 1950s focusing on play writing and in 1955 he began to write swordplay fiction. The immense popularity of his martial-arts novels continues unabated having sold more than 1 billion copies making him the most popular living Chinese author. He has more than redefined the genre. Critic Simon Elegant has compared the power of the novels to a Chinese Three Musketeers a Patrick O'Brian naval series and George MacDonald's Flashman combined. ; "Kung fu together with Chinese medicine calligraphy painting playing Go and strumming the seven-stringed zither constitute the core of the Chinese cultural essence. All these elements appear in the novels and their placement firmly in the myth-shrouded past combine to produce a kind of 'cultural euphoria' in Chinese readers that cannot be found anywhere else in modern Chinese literature."--John Minford. ; in multicolored pictorial dustjackets with classic watercolor scenes color-coded by novel and stiff paper wrappers ; text in Chinese with many illustrations; Paginations: Bi xue jian 2 v. 4 828 p. : ill. ; 21 cm.; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 3-4 ISBN: 7108006677; 9787108006677 ; LCCN:2007-556539 ; OCLC: 32447936 -- Shen diao xia lu 4 v. 4 1564 p. : ill. ; 21 cm. ; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 9-12 ISBN: 7108006669 set; 9787108006660 set ; LCCN: 2007-556538 ; OCLC: 32447953 -- Xue shan fei hu 4 394 p. : ill. ; 21 cm. ; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 13 ; ISBN: 7108006642; 9787108006646 ; LCCN:2007-558748 ; OCLC: 32752984 -- Fei hu wai zhuan 2 v. 4 726 p. : ill. ; 21 cm. ; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 14-15 ISBN: 7108006650; 9787108006653 ; LCCN:2007-558749 ; OCLC: 32752899 -- Yi tian tu long ji 4 v. 4 1594 p. : ill. ; 21 cm.
