ref. 17260'Reprinted from "The Maritime Review."' No place or date but during the reign of King George V. 2pp. 4to. Printed on the same side of one piece of shiny art paper folded to make a bifolium. Aged and stained with wear and slight loss to extremities. Photograph of Russell beneath title alongside 'Sonnet To W. Clark Russell' reprinted 'From "English Sea Pictures." By Julia D. Young Author of "Barham Beach the President's Poem." - New York.' The author laments that 'in this country it is not the fashion to ennoble those who really do something for their time and generation' such as Russell whose 'stupendous output' consists of 'fifty-seven books everyone sic of them good'. The article concludes: 'Of a surety is such a hero a national asset and the more we think of the subject the greater is our admiration for that skipper of Calcutta who first called our attention to the fact. May the fates be kinder to the stricken writer and may he long be spared to wield his able pen. The nation can better spare many more-advertised and gaudily-decorated patriots than can it Mr. W. Clark Russell - a citizen of the universal world.' No other copy of this offprint traced either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC. 'Reprinted from "The Maritime Review."' No place or date (but during the reign of King George V). unknown

ref. 3389c.1833. Text printed in Daniel Edward"An Appeal to the Landed Manufacturing Trading and Professional Interests of Great Britain: Exhorting Them to Insist Upon the Immediate Redemption of the Public Debt" 1833 . 4 pages 8vo. Pagination: 1 2-3 4. A frail survival: paper grubby discoloured and dogeared with a few closed tears and some fraying to extremities but the text clear and legible. A space at the beginning of the document for the insertion of the petitioner's name in manuscript has been left blank. Begins: 'The Petition of and all other Owners of Land subject to Mortgages and other pecuniary payments charged on it before its depreciation in consequence of the return to the present Gold Currency by which the value of every denomination of Money is so much increased'. The petitioner states p.1 that he 'hath for forty years with attention and concern observed the changes that have taken place in the condition of the middle and lower classes of society and his conviction is that most of the distress and calamities that they have experienced during that period may fairly be imputed to the Revenue Laws and the changes that have taken place in the Currency'. He calls for the appointment of 'a Committee to inquire into the practicability of the redemption of the Public Debt' and 'an Act to suspend all proceedings at Law and in Equity for the recovery of sums of money charged on land and the sale of land by persons having any claims to pecuniary payments out of it until the redemption of the Public Debt be effected'.
