réf. 98141901China n.d. ca. 1899-1903. A double-sided glass mirror silver gelatin photo with oval view superb and prinstine crisp image absolutely no fading mirror/glass 6 x 9 cm. image ca. 4 x 6 cm. slightly off center. V E R Y R A R E ! A very RARE example of early silver gelatin technique with the most remarkable preservation and results. . This stunning and very early image is over 112 years old the portrait of the "page boy" coiffure Chinese girl is marvelous. She wears a modern patterned "Chi-pao" a high-neck split dress which reveals her legs though not shown and also she sports a watch ring and earrings with a serious but gentle pouting sail. . Her arms are folded in front of her and showing a lot of self-confidence. Her neck is completely covered by her tall collar which exhibits not one but two "frogs" or Chinese button-clasps. Her "Chi-pao" dress is of an 'earlier style' and her sleeves are about half-way up her forearm. . Her full lips and very straight nose give her a lot of elegance and charm. Her very rounded face shows some elegance. Her jet black bangs hang straight down without a single hair out of place to her eyebrows which are hidden. An immaculate portrait of a charming and beautiful girl in her early twenties. PHOTO TECHNIQUE: Silver gelatin type photographs of this vintage sandwiched between two sheets of glass seldom survive; most are invaded by the air oxidized and destroyed. Others have broken glass most are poor examples with defective images. CONDITION: The two sheets of glass are intact and held together firmly. The image is oval and has survived any exposure to the outside air but the exterior edges have some exposure thus darkening the silver. The image is without any problems. It is strong clear and not faded at all. This again is "REMARKABLE" vis-à-vis the fact that the large majority by now are damaged and defective. This is a RARE item in the very best of collector's condition. SUPERB EXAMPLE ! . THE VERSO: The back side shows where the encroachment of air has enter the edges. The interior shows a bit of discoloration but again this is in the silver margin not near or behind the image at all. . unknown

Best known for his amusing depictions of peasants landscapes and Bosch-like fantasies Bruegel also created a wide range of highly original interpretations of religious themes in an era marked by religious controversies. Over a career of two decades as both a printmaker and a painter he found his artistic niche in Europe's leading center of international trade the emerging capital of capitalism Antwerp. All of Bruegel's drawings prints and paintings on both canvas and panel - including the new Madrid canvas - are examined for form and content with comprehensive analysis. In addition interpretation of the full range of Flemish paintings and prints during his generation is presented through the lens of Hieronymus Cock Bruegel's own print publisher "At the Sign of the Four Winds". Within this spectrum Bruegel's uniqueness and mastery emerges clearly. While scholars will appreciate the novel insights of this comprehensive re-examination of Pieter Bruegel its highly accessible text will introduce newcomers and the general public to the delights of this inventive trenchant yet often amusing visual commentator on the human condition. All readers will relish the large-scale reproductions and frequent details in full color of his entire oeuvre in all media. This handsome largescale volume will form the definitive study and accessible introduction to the life and art of Pieter Bruegel. . 2011. 0789211041 . Abbeville Press hardcover

Accompanying the Guggenheim's exhibition of the same name it examines the interwar period in its key artistic manifestations and their interpretations of classical values and aesthetics: the poetic dream of antiquity in the Parisian avant garde of Fernand Leger and Pablo Picasso; the politicized revival of the Roman Empire under Benito Mussolini by artists such as Giorgio de Chirico and Mario Sironi; and the austere functionalist utopianism of the Bauhaus as well as more chillingly the pseudo-biological classicism or Aryanism of nascent Nazi society. This presentation of the seismic transformations in interbellum French Italian and German culture encompasses painting sculpture photography architecture film fashion and the decorative arts. Among the other artists surveyed here are Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Andre Derain Gino Severini Jean Cocteau Le Corbusier Amedee Ozenfant Madeleine Vionnet Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann Carlo Carra Giorgio Morandi Massimo Campigli Achille Funi Ubaldo Oppi Felice Casorati Giuseppe Terragni Gio Ponti Arturo Martini Georg Kolbe Oskar Schlemmer Otto Dix Georg Scholz Georg Schrimpf Wilhelm Schnarrenberger and August Sander. . 2010. 0892074043 . FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- Text in English and Spanish. 108 pages; 146 illustrations including 145 in color. -- with a bonus offer--; The aerial photographs of Pablo López Luz born 1979 rove across the urban landscapes of his native Mexico capturing scenes of dense civic activity and more pastoral areas on urban perimeters. Luz's bird's-eye viewpoint endows his images with the feel of staged artifice while also permitting the viewer the rare possibility of appraising a vast spread of visual information and the extraordinary impact that urban populations have as they encroach in ever-increasing circles upon the landscape around them. For Luz aerial photography serves the purposes of social critique allowing him "to portray the effect that overpopulation followed by a lack of structure or guidelines in the development of cities alters the city s terrain and land." Pablo López Luz contains color photographs produced over the last five years in Acapulco Chiapas Mexico City and Tijuana plus another series made in Hong Kong. . 2012. 8415118074 . RM hardcover
