This is one of the earlist attempts during the 'second wave' of the Women's Movement to assemble a collection of the seminal works that had come before. From Wikipedia: Women's rights are the rights and entitlements claimed for women and girls worldwide. They formed the basis for the women's rights movement in the 19th century and the feminist movements during the 20th and 21st centuries. In some countries these rights are institutionalized or supported by law local custom and behavior whereas in others they are ignored and suppressed. They differ from broader notions of human rights through claims of an inherent historical and traditional bias against the exercise of rights by women and girls in favor of men and boys. Issues commonly associated with notions of women's rights include the right to bodily integrity and autonomy to be free from sexual violence to vote to hold public office to enter into legal contracts to have equal rights in family law to work to fair wages or equal pay to have reproductive rights to own property and to education. Bibliography as a discipline is traditionally the academic study of books as physical cultural objects; in this sense it is also known as bibliology. English author and bibliographer John Carter describes bibliography as a word having two senses: one a list of books for further study or of works consulted by an author or enumerative bibliography; the other one applicable for collectors is "the study of books as physical objects" and "the systematic description of books as objects" or descriptive bibliography. Bibliography is a specialized aspect of library science or library and information science LIS and documentation science. It was established by a Belgian named Paul Otlet 1868-1944 who was the founder of the field of documentation as a branch of the information sciences who wrote about "the science of bibliography." The quantitative study of bibliographies is known as bibliometrics which is today an influential subfield in LIS and is used for major collection decisions. The Scarecrow Press, Inc hardcover

2020ref. 411290New York: David Zwirner 2020. First edition. New in shrinkwrap. 11.75 x 9 inches. 160 pages. Profusely illustrated in color. Original printed boards. "Lauded by Jerry Saltz as "one of the most reactionary yet radical visions of art" The Young and Evil tells the story of a group of artists and writers active during the first half of the twentieth century when homosexuality was as problematic for American culture as figuration was for modernist painting. These artists--including Paul Cadmus Fidelma Cadmus Kirstein Charles Henri Ford Jared French Margaret Hoening French George Platt Lynes Bernard Perlin Pavel Tchelitchew George Tooker Alexander Jensen Yow and their circle--were new social creatures playfully and boldly homosexual at a time when it was both criminalized and pathologized. They pursued a modernism of the body--driven by eroticism and bounded by intimacy forming a hothouse world within a world that doesn't nicely fit any subsequent narrative of modern American art. In their work they looked away from abstraction toward older sources and models--classical and archaic forms of figuration and Renaissance techniques. What might be seen as a reactionary aesthetic maneuver was made in the service of radical content--endeavoring to depict their own lives. Their little-known history is presented here through never-before-exhibited photographs sculptures drawings ephemera and rarely seen major paintings--offering the first view of its kind into their interwoven intellectual artistic and personal lives" the publisher.
