Carpenter 1891–1970 was a British freshwater ecologist whose work laid the foundation for modern aquatic environmental science. She is widely referred to as the mother of freshwater ecology. The book Life in Inland Waters is historically important because it was the first textbook in English devoted entirely to freshwater ecology. No previous English-language text had synthesized the biology chemistry and ecological dynamics of freshwater systems in a single volume. Carpenter integrated zoology botany hydrology and environmental chemistry—an approach that was decades ahead of its time. It became a foundational text for early ecologists and helped establish freshwater ecology as a formal scientific field. We pack securely and ship daily with delivery confirmation on every book.
