Tabular Data. Cover has wear and soiling. Rear cover has tears at staples. Author information inside the back cover. This is the Human Relations Monograph number 10. Dr. Rhetta M. Arter was a social and cultural researcher and former director of field studies for the Center for Human Relations Studies at New York University. In 1959 Dr. Arter founded and became president of Research and Action Inc. a social research company in Manhattan. She created and administered projects serving women and girls for the National Board of the Y.W.C.A. and the National Council of Negro Women. Any professional field must be based on sound theory and continuous research. As experience widens new meanings emerge. Thus at the Center for Human Relations Studies at New York University it was seen that theory research and professional education could all be parts of a unified program. The theory must represent the best concepts of all the social sciences woven into a systematic and orderly rationale. The research was to involve the student in actually taking part in action and analysis of action for the improvement of social relationships. Thus the emerging idea of action research where the researcher is both participant and observer was widely developed in programs for professionalizing the human relations field. Signed by both co-authors on the title page. Handwritten note from Kris Stoever the daughter of Scott Carpenter is laid in. Publisher's promotional material also laid in. Includes Prologue; Epilogue; Notes; Acknowledgments; and an Index. Part 1 covers Earth; Part 2 covers Sky; and Part 3 covers Stars. The book also contains Epilogue Notes Acknowledgments and Index. Scott Carpenter with his daughter Kris Stoever clears up all lingering questions about his flight while telling the history of an amazing frontier family and the strength of the American pioneer spirit. Malcolm Scott Carpenter May 1 1925 - October 10 2013 was an American naval officer and aviator test pilot aeronautical engineer astronaut and aquanaut. He was one of the Mercury Seven astronauts. Carpenter was the second American after John Glenn to orbit the Earth and the fourth American in space after Alan Shepard Gus Grissom and Glenn. Carpenter became a naval aviator flying a Lockheed P-2 Neptune with Patrol Squadron 6 VP-6 on reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare missions along the coasts of Soviet Union and China during the Korean War and the Cold War. In 1954 he became a test pilot. He was backup to Glenn during the latter's Mercury Atlas 6 orbital mission. Carpenter flew the next mission Mercury-Atlas 7 in the spacecraft he named Aurora 7. Due to a series of malfunctions the spacecraft landed 250 miles 400 km downrange from its intended splashdown point but both pilot and spacecraft were retrieved. Derived from a Kirkus review: Mercury astronaut Carpenter and his daughter tell his life story thus far. The immediacy of the story is exemplified in the description of the few hours when Carpenter is in his Aurora 7 orbiting Earth: he then takes control of the story much as he did his capsule when the fuel ran out due to equipment malfunction. Carpenter spent his early years in the company of his grandparents. As a military test plot at Patuxent he became a prime candidate for the Mercury Program. Description of the screening and selection process for that adventure its endless "psychophysiological nit-picking" hews closely to Tom Wolfe's handling of it in The Right Stuff. The space flight is the centerpiece a truly dangerous and punishing mission "I was trained to avoid any active intellectual comprehension of disaster" he notes as his spacecraft started to fail him. His work for SeaLab after the Mercury Program gets mentioned. Carpenter comes off the pages to reveal the elemental audacity we've come to associate with the seven Mercury astronauts. Schrimer's Selection of Patriotic Choruses. This is G. Schrimer Octavo 8808. There is some wear and soiling. Cover has an image of an American Eagle with flag imagery. John Alden Carpenter February 28 1876 - April 26 1951 was an American composer. Carpenter was born in Park Ridge Illinois on February 28 1876 and raised in a musical household. He was educated at Harvard University where he studied under John Knowles Paine and was president of the Glee Club also writing music for the Hasty-Pudding Club. Showing great promise as a composer he journeyed to London to study under Edward Elgar and finally succeeded in studying with him in Rome in 1906 later returning to the United States to study under Bernhard Ziehn in Chicago through 1912. It was there he earned a comfortable living as vice-president of the family business a shipping supply company from 1909 to his retirement in 1936. After his retirement he spent much of his time composing. Carpenter's compositional style was considered to be mainly "mildly modernistic and impressionistic"; also many of his works strive to encompass the spirit of America including the patriotic The Home Road and several of his works are jazz-inspired. He composed three ballets: Krazy Kat: A Jazz Pantomime based on the Krazy Kat comics was premiered at the New York Town Hall on 20 January 1922 and was the first work by a concert composer to use the word 'jazz' in its title; possibly his best-known is Skyscrapers 1926 set in New York it premiered at the Metropolitan Opera but equally inspired by his native Chicago. In 1932 Carpenter completed Song of Faith for the George Washington bicentennial. His first symphony Symphony No. 1 in C was premiered in Norfolk Connecticut in 1917 and revised for the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra who performed it on October 24 1940. Bruno Walter premiered his second symphony with the New York Philharmonic in 1942. He also wrote many piano pieces and songs including the song cycle Gitanjali with poems by Rabindranath Tagore. Carpenter made two published commercial sound recordings. In December 1927 he joined the mezzo-soprano Mina Hager to record the voice and piano version of his set of Water-Colors settings of four ancient Chinese poems in English translations for a small subscription label the Chicago Gramophone Society. In April 1932 Carpenter recorded the spoken narration in his Song of Faith with the Chicago A Cappella Choir the Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor Noble Cain for Victor. Carpenter made at least one private non-commercial recording; it is possible that one or more private or off-air recordings of his performances also survive for instance among the Mina Hager papers in Chicago. Chad Carpenter born ca. 1968 is an American cartoonist best known for his comic panel Tundra. Carpenter launched the strip in the Anchorage Daily News in his home state of Alaska in 1991. Since then he has self-syndicated it to over 330 newspapers an unusually high amount for strips in self-syndication. A comic strip is a sequence of drawings arranged in interrelated panels to display brief humor or form a narrative often serialized with text in balloons and captions. From Nature's Favorite Newspaper Comic Strip! Created in 1991 Tundra is published on a daily basis always in one of two formats: Either a single-panel gag comic or a three-panel strip with regular characters and more complex humor. This alternation is similar to that used in Mother Goose and Grimm and Non Sequitur. Unlike those strips Tundra tends to deal with wildlife and the outdoors; its humor appeals to all demographics young & old. Tundra also occasionally uses reader-submitted ideas. Since 2007 the strip has been syndicated internationally by King Features Syndicate. It now appears in newspapers in the United States Canada Jamaica Germany Switzerland Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago. He has published and sold 20 Tundra books and has also produced extensive amounts of other Tundra-branded merchandise. In May 2008 Tundra was named the best newspaper panel of 2007 by the National Cartoonists Society. In August 2008 Carpenter was presented with a legislative citation honoring him as Alaska's Cartoon Laureate. It was presented to him by Wes Keller a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. A calendar is a system of organizing days for social religious commercial or administrative purposes. This is done by giving names to periods of time typically days weeks months and years. A date is the designation of a single specific day within such a system. A calendar is also a physical record often paper of such a system. A calendar can also mean a list of planned events such as a court calendar. Tundra and Associates and Willow Creak Press unknown

Presentation copy signed by the author. Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Sutherland Carpenter September 1 1920 - March 20 2010 was a writer feminist former reporter media advisor speechwriter political humorist and public relations expert. Carpenter was born in historic Salado in southern Bell Country Texas. In 1936 her 24-room residence there was declared a state historic monument. In 1967 a plaque was unveiled to indicate that Carpenter had once lived there. At the age of seven she moved with her family to Austin. Carpenter stood in the forefront of the Women's Movement when it began and never wavered from her platform. Her projects and causes ranged from supporting high tech to fighting cancer. Often called the "funniest woman in politics" she was in demand as a public speaker until her death. Excerpt from a Kirkus review posted on-line: "Liz Carpenter was a reporter as well as a friend of the Johnsons for twenty years before she joined their staff which accounts for the effortless effervescence of this account. .Mrs. Carpenter retains her undimmed admiration for both the Johnsons even though some of Lyndon's impromptu decisions complicated their lives considerably in the generally hurried flurried progression of campaign tours . meeting the press . dinners and entertainments and of course the weddings. Mrs. Carpenter. became Mrs. Johnson's press secretary . ""Miss Liz"" known for her sense of humor is funniest about herself she's given to absent-mindedness and brought the wrong dog home from the vet bought the wrong statue--a Jesus instead of St. Francis--as a present for her husband. Most of this does come down to incidentals along with a ""Hail to the Chief"" and a tribute to that First Lady Bird." Doubleday & Company, Inc hardcover
