1951réf. 0236251951. Book. Very Good. No Binding. This is a rough draft 14 page typescript for a sketch from Your Show of Shows. Originally titled Home Late Sketch by Mel Tolkin Lucille Kallen and Max Liebman Show of Shows #32 these have been crossed out in ink as has the scene description. Lines are added and deleted throughout for this 2 person skit meant to be performed by Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca. Script is very good some stapled pages some loose with some age darkening and light wear Lucille Kallen was " the lone woman in the raucous celebrated and astonishingly untidy group of television writers behind Sid Caesar's ''Your Show of Shows' Sid Caesar's writer's room has been fictionally recreated many times. Neil Simon one of the writers memorialized it in his play Laughter on the 23rd Floor; it formed the centerpiece of the 1982 film My Favorite Year and most famously it was the office in which Rob Petrie worked in The Dick Van Dyke Show. An original script for the classic television show from the estate of Lucille Kallen. A unique item. unknown

1961réf. 88706Chicago IL: Quadrangle Books 1961. Presumed First Edition First printing. Hardcover. Very good/Good. Wayne H. Gallagher. v 3 194 4 pages. Glossary. Illustrations. Tabular data. Appendix. Index. The dust jacket has some wear small tears and soiling. This is a myth-shattering guide to bomb survival which offers new hope for millions of Americans. It breaks the hypnotic spell of mass figures bloated into death and destruction. It firmly contradicts the "certain death" psychology advocated by well-meaning but mistaken spreaders of despair and futility. More specifically this book is a manual for life. Author Mel Mawrence was Chief of Informational Services Illinois Civil Defense Office. John Clark Kimball was a former foreign correspondent Air Intelligence Officer USNR. This work includes scientific details; list of supplies; air burst charts; bomb shelter manufacturers and suppliers circa 1960. This book was a timely contribution during a period of intense public discussion of and governmental and personal investment in civil defense against a nuclear attack. Some of the content on fallout shelters was derived from the British experience of the construction of protection spaces during the German bombing campaign of WWII frequently referred to as "The Blitz". This book by Colonel Mel Mawrence with John Clark Kimball is a well-written primer of survival in the event of nuclear attack. The authors predict that even in a-well-managed unsuspected attack "the great majority of Americans probably will have a warning of at least hours." The authors emphasize that by proper preparation this country could hold the death rate to "between one and eleven per cent of the population." They urge that such preparation be commenced immediately both on a national and an individual basis; they chide those who in their eagerness to avoid hard responsibility grasp at any excuse even to the "siren song of certain death."
