FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 176 pages; 151 illus. -- with a bonus offer--; Salvador Dalí 19041989 was one of the most famous and controversial artists of the 20th century. Although he was prolific for more than sixty yearscreating 1200 oil paintings countless drawings sculptures theatre and fashion designs book illustrations and numerous writingsthe nearly universal current critical judgment is that his work reached its zenith in the early 1930s when he was affiliated with the Surrealist movement. The forty years of work executed after 1940the bulk of his oeuvreis often seen as repetitious reactionary and overly commercialized. Such criticisms mainly arose from his 1941 reinvention of himself as a classicist” his embrace of Catholicism and his support for General Francopostures that distanced him from notions of modernism and the avant-garde. This handsomely illustrated volume focuses on Dalí’s work after 1940 presenting it as a multifaceted oeuvre that simultaneously drew inspiration from the Old Masters and the contemporary world. Beginning in the late 1930s with the transition from Dalí’s well-known Surrealist canvases to the classicism he announced in 1941 the volume traces the artist’s work in illustration fashion and theatre predating commercial ventures by such celebrity artists as Andy Warhol. Essays evaluate the significance of Dalí’s nuclear mysticism” of the 1950s his enduring interest in science optical effects and illusionism his collaborations with photographer Philippe Halsman and his brief forays into Hollywood to work with Alfred Hitchcock and Walt Disney and visit the two major repositories of his workthe Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres and the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg. . 2010. 0300168284 . FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- Text in English. 236 pp. With 90 ills. 24 x 17 cm. -- with a bonus offer--; Perhaps the best-known artist of the international Surrealist movement Salvador Dalí 1904–1989 transformed his dreams and personal obsessions into some of the most original and arresting images of the 20th century. While the Surrealist works from his early years are widely known and admired Dalí’s controversial late works—often inspired by science and religion—have been given a different reception. In this important book experts provide a revisionist account of the last five decades of the artist’s career. The Dalí Renaissance explores a wide range of topics from this period including the artist’s fascination with religion and popular culture his "Nuclear Mysticism" lecture tour of the midwestern United States and his influence on film photography design and fashion. Based on an international symposium held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art the volume also features an enlightening discussion between two of Dalí’s former companions Ultra Violet and Amanda Lear that provides a glimpse into his personal life and working methods.

1968Best.-Nr. 7978New York: Harry N. Abrams 1968. Later printing . Hardcover. Good /Very good. Quarto 243pp. illustrated. Harry N. Abrams did not state first or later printings during this period but we presume this is a later printing as the Abrams logo on the front panel appears to be that of ca. 1970-74. A slightly shaken copy good or better with general scuffing to the edges especially the corners. Still a crisp sound copy. In a very good dust jacket showing mild edgewear and some scrapes/abrasions to the rear panel which is typical for this title. Nevertheless a fantastic copy SIGNED boldly in purple ink by Dali and dated 1976 on the blank leaf opposite the title page.
