1933ref. 22613New York: Julien Levy Gallery 1933. Single sheet. Very Good. A wonderful piece of Surrealist ephemera and one of the great early Julien Levy catalogues. The scarce historic November-December 1933 catalogue/announcement of Salvador Dali's first solo exhibition in America. 26 listed paintings followed by a Dali essay and 2 Dali illustrations. All on a single purple sheet folded into thirds. Light creasing at all 3 panels renders this copy a VG to VG rather than a Near Fine but happily the fragile catalogue remains bright and very presentable. This copy also boasts superb provenance having come directly from the family of artist --and Julien Levy patron-- Joseph Cornell and before that from his house itself famously on Utopia Parkway in Flushing Queens New York.
