1966réf. B-26-090003Alfred Jarry and Joan Miro' Illustrator. Tériade Éditeur Paris 1966. Complete portfolio comprising loose sheets and gatherings in the original paper wrapper original linen-covered hard chemise with spine title and original linen slipcase. Illustrated with 13 double-page original color lithographs by Miro on Arches wove paper with watermark. Signed in pencil in the colophon by Miro and numbered 96/180. This copy is from the edition of 180 numbered examples from a total edition of 205 copies. Ubu Roi is one of Joan Miró's most celebrated artist's books in which he transforms Alfred Jarry's absurd and satirical drama into a vibrant visual language of explosive color expressive forms and surreal imagery. The central character Père Ubu created by Jarry embodies greed deception and the abuse of power becoming a lasting symbol of political and social corruption. This fascinating anti-hero inspired some of Miró's most inventive graphic achievements combining literary inspiration with unparalleled chromatic intensity.
