La frase d'Alceo è sempre limpida e netta, stretta e piena, lontana, certo, dallo spirito della geometria ma, poiché nulla è tratto dal gorgo oscuro del subcosciente, lontana del pari dalle suggestioni ambigue e dal morbido alone dell'ineffabile. La liberazione del volto d'Anacreonte dalle superfetazioni delle anacreontiche è in atto da tempo: un poeta letteratissimo, che si staglia nel quadro della lirica arcaica per una risorsa di elegante stilizzazione che prelude agli alessandrini.
