1899ref. 287188Paris: the magazine 1899. Magazine. Unpaginated about 25p. softbound magazine in 12x9 inch color self-wraps sewn but coming apart with one thread still holding it secures the central leaf but other threads are loose and both covers are detached or nearly so. This issue is devoted to the sketches and pastel watercolors of artist Willette who is incensed by the British indifference to the peoples they have colonized and the mass murder by guns and starvation of those peoples. Cover painting indicts France as well. Willette is masterful and his nudes need no raison d'etre as many are wasted with hunger. Presswork on not-quite alkaline matte paperstock the complete issue but as is. the magazine unknown books
