rif. 12617Los Angeles: Zeitlin & Ver Brugge 1973. First edition. Softcover. vg. 1/1000. 8vo. Unpaginated. Illustrated wrappers in original paper covered illustrated slipcase. Pages unopened. "'Picture Book II' is the clearest and most direct of titles. Yet its very simplicity calls for some comment in this complex age. It is indeed a book of pictures - pictures which are unified only by being the work of a single man. Jean Charlot considers it a collection of some of his personal motifs analogous to a Liber Studiorum of an earlier age. Many subjects will be familiar to those who know the artist's oeuvre though they wear new colors and new composition." Stunningly illustrated with 32 full page multi-color lithographs which the artist prefers to call 'chromolithographs.' Each plate is accompanied with text written by Charlot. Includes an additional color lithograph "Hawaiian Swimmer" signed in pencil by Charlot which is different from the one depicted in the book. This plate was not part of this edition and is laid-in. Colophon page is also signed by the artist and the printer Lynton R. Kistler. A wonderful edition with both slipcase and book in very good - fine condition. Zeitlin & Ver Brugge unknown books

1940rif. 161224Hollywood: Joseph Jaasgur Photography 1940. Vintage photograph of Charlie Chaplin and his fourth and final wife Oona O'Neil circa mid-1940s. Photograph taken by noted photographer Joseph Jasgur with Jasgur's photography stamp on the verso along with an annotation in what appears to be Jasgur's hand noting "Charles 'Charlie Chaplain' sic and wife Oona O'Neil at L.A. Tennis Club / 1945-'47." In 1943 Chaplin then 54 married 18-year old Oona O'Neil daughter of playwright Eugene O'Neil only two weeks after a highly-publicized and speculative paternity suit was filed against Chaplin by aspiring actress Joan Barry. The overwhelmingly negative press regarding the suit aided by an aggressively hostile J. Edgar Hoover was only further compounded by the marriage and his career would never fully recover. Chaplin and O'Neil had eight children during their 18-year marriage and remained married until Chaplin's death in 1977 Joseph Jasgur was a celebrity photographer during Hollywood's Golden Age and is best remembered today for his 1946 photographs of a 19-year-old Marilyn Monroe then known as Norma Jean Dougherty. 9.25 x 7 inches.
