réf. WALTER-FILM000422No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 11 x 14"" 28 x 35 cm. title lobby card USA. Mae Murray John Gilbert Roy D'Arcy Tully Marshall dir: Eric von Stroheim; MGM. A classic silent film and one of the best of the genre. Also one of the most notorious because of its tempestuous production. A prince must woo a wealthy widowed dancer in order to keep her money in the country. Based on the Franz Lehar operetta and trotted out twice more in later years by MGM the problems Stroheim caused in production particularly with star Murray whose temper was equal to his and with executive Irving Thalberg were such that this would be the last film he would direct for MGM. One of the most expensive and decadent films of the silent era and orgy scene had to be severely cut for censorship reasons. Shot in 1924 Joan Crawford and Clark Gable reportedly appeared as extras. The card has a large pin hole at the top left corner which has been reinforced with archival tape on the verso. There are pin holes at the right and bottom left corners as well as a chip to the bottom left corner. There is light spotting and smudging over all the card VERY GOOD. unknown books

Sterling Hayden Louis Calhern Jean Hagen James Whitmore Sam Jaffe Marilyn Monroe dir: John Huston MGM. Classic film noir about a heist which after being successfully executed unravels with tragic consequences. Though John Huston intended the role of Angela Phinlay for Lola Albright Marilyn Monroe won the role and it was the first in which her great dramatic abilities were explored. Poster features Monroe prominently thanks to agent Johnny Hyde's work in placing her there amongst the films MGM contract players. Poster is paper-backed. There are creases at all four corners. A few small inter tears have been addressed in the lower left side photo area. There was a long horizontal crease or tear from the mid left side to the mid-point of the poster which has been addressed. Corner pinholes addressed. réf. WALTER-FILM000324No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 36 x 14"" 90 x 35 cm. insert poster USA. Jean Harlow William Powell Myrna Loy Spencer Tracy Walter Connolly Charley Grapewin dir: Jack Conway; MGM. One of the finest screwball comedies of the 1930s. A most popular genre this time given the opulent MGM treatment with all-star cast Cedric Gibbons' art direction and Lawrence Weingarten as producer. When a false news story about a high society woman is hatched the newspaper man his jilted fiancé and his lawyer set out to make the story true before she can sue for libel. George Oppenheimer Howard Emmett Rogers and Maurine Watkins adapted the Wallace Sullivan story which was so popular that MGM resurrected it in a remake some ten years later. Though Harlow and Powell were a couple in real life at the time audiences wanted more and more of the Powell/Loy team and this was the fifth of their 14 films together. Jean Harlow loved the costumes made for her by Dolly Tree and when she died a year after the making of this film she was entombed in the gown Tree made for her role of Gladys Benton. Poster was folded and it has now been paper-backed and cleaned. The folds have been lightly addressed. There was a 4"" 10 cm. crease just above the top third fold from the left edge in and one 2"" 5 cm. tear at the bottom margin at the lower portion of Jean Harlow's shoulder both professionally addressed. Pinholes addressed at corners VERY GOOD. unknown books

Lana Turner John Garfield Leon Ames Cecil Kellaway Hume Cronyn dir: Tay Garnett; MGM. Scene still from the noir drama based on the James M. Cain novel. The story of an unhappily married woman who with a drifter plans and carries out the murder of her husband is one of the best remembered most atmospheric and sexually tense films even within the restraints of the Production Code of this period genre. It took 12 years to bring the notorious James M. Cain novel to the screen because of the Code restrictions. So stringent were they that every page of every script draft was scrutinized by the Breen office. Once filmed each bit of footage and every still photo was submitted for approval. There were no objections to this posed moment of Lana Turner visiting John Garfield in the prison hospital. Minor crease at top left corner ABOUT FINE. unknown books

Norma Shearer Joan Crawford Rosalind Russell Mary Boland Paulette Goddard Joan Fontaine Phyllis Povah Virginia Weidler Lucile Watson Marjorie Main dir: George Cukor: MGM. One of the most famous films of the 1930s with the wittiest of scripts and dialogue. F. Scott Fitzgerald contributed to the script based on Clare Booth Luce's Broadway play. Superb in every respect the film nonetheless was released during the most competitive year of superb film works and did not receive a single Academy nomination. Still labeled ""1091x174"" depicts the climatic final scene in which there is a major showdown amongst the film's main characters in a New York City nightclub ladies powder room. Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer were allowed to play out in character their dislike for each other in this scene. Queens of MGM their reign would be over in two years. Shearer would retire while Crawford re-invented herself and moved on to an entirely new film career. Rosalind Russell's career would flourish as she went onto starring roles in films for another 25 years while Paulette Goddard would have a leading lady reign throughout the 1940s. Others in the scene are Phyllis Povah Mary Boland and Florence Nash. Hedda Hopper not seen here also appeared in this scene. Adrian gowned all the actresses.
