BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY WRAPPED IN PADDING IN A BOX. A biographical monograph on the work of Lady Clementina Hawarden one of the earliest women photographers. "Hawarden was a well-regarded portrait photographer of the 1860s. Lewis Carroll praised and collected her pictures which predated even the work of her better-known contemporary Julia Margaret Cameron and art historians contend that her photographs influenced Whistler's portrait paintings. After Hawarden's death at the age of forty-two her work fell into oblivion until the 1930s when the Victoria and Albert Museum inherited from her family 775 of her photographs." Text by Virginia Dodier; introduction by Marina Warner; afterword by Mark Haworth-Booth. 128 pages; 130 plates and text illustrations in color; 10 x 11.5 inches. Annotated list of illustrations endnotes index. Due to size and weight international and expedited shipping will be more than quoted. Aperture hardcover
