Volume is bound in full black leather with bright gilt lettering to spine and gilt decoration to front cover that admits to some light to medium rubbing. Leather is quite worn though binding is intact. An early leaf admits to a short tear near gutter that makes it difficult to see just a few letters of text. Some tanning to paper. Just a few pencil marks to text else text clean. Certainly an acceptable working copy that maintains a bit of its original charm. VERY SCARCE The Ave Maria Press hardcover

He graduated from Harvard University in 1826 and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1829. That same year he was ordained as co-pastor with Abiel Holmes of the First Congregational Church in Cambridge Massachusetts. In 1834 he became pastor of Union Congregational Church Essex Street Church in Boston. He would remain in that position until his death in 1878.
