Written by George Crabbe an English poet surgeon and clergyman known for his use of the realistic narrative form and descriptions of working-class life. One leaf of advertisements to the rear of volume two. Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally smart with light shelf wear and rubbing to the extremities. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spines. The odd mark to the board. Front joints starting but very firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Illustrated with forty coloured plates. Collated complete. A study into the natural wildlife of Selborne. Written by Reverend Gilbert White an English parson-naturalist ecologist and ornithologist best known for this work which has been said to have shaped our everyday view of the relations between humans and nature. With additions and supplementary notes by Sir William Jardine a Scottish naturalist known for editing a long series of natural history books for The Naturists Library. Edited and illustrated by Edward Jesse an English writer on natural history commissioner of Hackney coaches and deputy surveyor-general of the Royal Parks and Palaces. Bound in contemporary quarter blue cloth with patterned boards. Externally excellent. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Light spotting to the endpapers. Printed for R.I Chilwell at the Rose and Crown in St. Paul's Churchyard 1706. First edition. Leather binding. It appears that this has been rebound at some point. The spine is in beautiful condition- with five raised bands. The boards maybe original as they are a slightly different colour and have more signs of wear and scuffing. The end papers seem to be newer paper than the book contents. Rest of the book is original. Some chipping to page edges and some marks including what look like finger prints to page edges. Some staining to top half of first few pages but text is still completely legible. Pre-owned. R.I.Chilwell hardcover

Illustrated with 2 full page sepia aquatints 12 line maps and 5 fine woodcut vignettes within the text. A very good copy in contemporary half brown calf. Spine with gilt thick and thin ruled and piped lines and oval centre pieces. Red morocco label gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Edges a bit rubbed and bumped and small amount of chipping to the edges of the label not affecting the lettering but generally a very good copy. Printed by R. Cruttwell, Bath, and sold by G.
