réf. 19180Standing Council of the Baronetage London. 1909 or 1910. Henry Good & Son London E.C. 9pp 4to. In fair condition on lightly-aged paper; with central horizontal fold. A main topic of the meeting was as Sir Lambton Loraine explained the assertion by the Duke of Norfolk of his 'right to a jurisdiction over the Baronetage in every way' and his belief that he has 'a right to keep our record at his own house in St. James's Square whereas we have not yet got the King's answer to the Home Secretary's Committee's proposal that a person appointed by the Home Office should be the future Registrar of the Roll of the Baronetage'. Another matter discussed was 'whether the title "Baronet" should be on one's card'. From the papers of Sir Richard Harington 11th Baronet who has written at top-right of the title-page: 'Read 15 June 1910'. Scarce: no other copy found either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC. 1765réf. AQ21341A Paris: De l'Imprimerie de Guilleaume Desprez 1765. 92pp. Uncut stitched as issued. Edges a trifle dusty else clean and crisp. A printing of extracts from the minutes of the Assembly of the French clergy in 1765 a meeting most notable for reiterating the episcopacy's defence of it's exemption from taxation; a statement that from a Jansenist perspective amounted to a revocation of the Declaration of 1682 which had codified the principles of Gallicanism. The tensions bolstered by this corruption of Gallicanist fundamentals together with increased opposition to monarchical absolutism would pave the road to the Revolution - an ultimately the nationalisation of all ecclesiastical property. . 8vo. 1836réf. 9235Annapolis MD: William M'Neir 1836. Wrappers. Very Good binding. Octavo. 77 3 pp. First edition. In contemporary plain wrappers. Wrappers are detached and chipped; contents are generally foxed; small and early institutional stamp in the bottom margin of one page deep in the pamphlet; minor crease throughout the pamphlet from a vertical fold; dog-eared pages. Quite a presentable copy of a scarce publication on the Baltimore Bank Riots of 1835 which grew out of the failure of the Bank of Maryland. There was a belief that its impending bankruptcy was anticipated by its officers leading to civil unrest. The issues at trial were whether Baltimore officials had reacted appropriately and adequately when unrest began and rioting actually broke out. This pamphlet gives numerous depositions as to events in the city during this extended period of civil violence. American Imprints identifies another issue of this with slight differences to the title page that was issued the same year. Despite there being two issues it remains remarkably rare in commerce. Henkels offered it in 1915; beyond this there are no other auctions or offerings noted by the usual sources. OCLC locates barely a dozen copies of both issues together. American Imprints 38812. 1867réf. BK0152Barbados: Office of "The Official Gazette" No. 14 Broad Street 1867. 30 pp. with unnumbered index 42 pp. Half leather over cloth boards. Ink ownership inscription "W. Brandford Griffith / 1869" on a preliminary blank. Scattered foxing and light toning. A locally printed manual for the Barbados House of Assembly with the ownership inscription of William Brandford Griffith then both a member of the Assembly and the island's auditor-general. Griffith served in the Assembly from 1861 to 1874 and was appointed auditor-general in 1863; he subsequently held several other colonial offices before becoming governor of the Gold Coast in 1885. The rules numbered through 271 and accompanied by an extensive alphabetical index set out the conduct of the Assembly's public business. The index includes procedures for issuing election writs and returning the names of elected members to the governor and council together with the course to be followed when writs had not been executed. Although published well after emancipation these rules governed an Assembly whose electorate remained restricted by property qualifications. Free men of color had gained voting rights subject to those qualifications in 1831 and Samuel Jackman Prescod entered the Assembly in 1843. Planters and merchants nevertheless continued to dominate both the Assembly and the Legislative Council during the period in which Griffith served. OCLC records the 1867 edition OCLC 823344433 but we have been unable to identify a current institutional holding. . Office of "The Official Gazette," No. 14, Broad Street unknown

1808réf. List2316Hartford: Hudson and Goodwin 1808. Letterpress broadside measuring 13 x 7 ¾ inches. Some slight toning near fine overall. Fine. A broadside announcing the candidates for the United States House of Representatives a list which includes Noah Webster. Webster received 212 votes in the preliminary election in May enough to get him a spot on the ballot but lost in the general election in a generally difficult time for Federalist politicians. Webster experienced a religious conversion during this period after being a not particularly devout Congregationalist earlier in his life and embraced the church completely perhaps due to the death of his infant son in 1806. Webster would run again for U.S. Representative in 1810 1812 and 1816 losing each time and eventually abandoned politics his last office held being in the Connecticut House of Representatives ending in 1807 shortly before his first campaign for national office. We find no record of this broadside in OCLC or other ephemera relating to Webster's political career in Connecticut in the trade. The collected acts from this session were published in octavo format but we find no other record of this broadside printing. Hudson and Goodwin unknown
