First edition of this practical manual for conducting manorial courts which underwent eight editions by 1819. This was the first book of Giles Jacob 1686-1744 "the leading legal writer of his age" Greenwood. It probably drew on his experience as steward and secretary to the politician William Blathwayt. "One of the most heavily used examples of manorial manuals. it contains a detailed description of the method of holding a manorial court and gives numerous examples of the format of particular types of document which a manorial steward might need to use in the course of his duties. Researchers who have a particular interest in the technicalities of holding a manor court will find Jacob immensely valuable" Ellis pp. 55-6. Octavo 193 x 116 mm pp. viii 488 24. Dodson" to initial binder's blank presentation inscription dated 1792 to following binder's blank. Light rubbing short split at head of rear joint some faint staining at outer margin.
