Grand in-8 de 17 x 24,5 cm, (3 ff.) 256 pp. Relié demi-chagrin grainé rouge foncé, dos à 5 faux-nerfs couvrant les coutures, nom d'auteur, titre et fleurons dorés, une partie du dos orné ayant disparu et laissant visible la couche inférieure du cuir. Charnières frottées. Couverture bleue conservée, gravure de l'auteur en costume ladaki (tibétain) en frontispice, nombreuses images au fil du livre, page de titre et fins de chapitre ornés d'une svastika surmontée d'un croissant et d'un point. "Après trois ans de repos, je ressens un invincible besoin de mouvement, et, au milieu du cadre étroit de la vie civilisée, j’éprouve comme un étouffement. La nuit, lorsque je travaille à la mise au net des observations recueillies pendant ma précédente expédition, il me semble entendre l’appel du désert dans le sifflement du vent qui souffle au dehors.. Bientôt ma résolution est prise ; de nouveau je m’acheminerai vers les libres et grandioses solitudes des infinis plateaux du Tibet." (Début du livre) Originellement publié en 1903, Le Tibet dévoilé fait le récit du second voyage dans la région de son auteur. On y croise le Tachi-lama, personnage sacré, un monde que Hedin qualifie de "Moyen-Âge monacal au XXe siècle", le lac sacré de Manasarovar et bien d'autres lieux et personnes hauts en couleur.
