2014About the book:- Both Buddhism and Vedanta emerging from the same soil and talking about the universal philosophy related to physical and metaphysical worlds differ apparently so far their philosophical outlook, religious angle and social structure is concerned. But in reality both are impressed from each other. Buddhism while developing its base borrowed a lot from Vedanta's philosophy to build up a separate religious mansion of its own. Evils produced by the practice of karmkandas and ritualism supported by Brahminism provided fertile ground for growth of Buddhism in India. The philosophical contribution of the Buddha has uniqueness not in its originality, but in the manner and way that he represented. What he talked about the universe, world, birth, rebirth, death, mind, consciousnesses etc., are not new. A lot has been said about that in Indian great ancient philosophical as well as religious epics. However, Buddhist attack upon Hinduism for blind practice of karmkandas and ritualism badly shook the root of Vedantism. This is another fact that Sankracharya and his followers, provided a stable ground to Vedantic philosophy and Hinduism to revitalize. Thereafter, Buddhism began to lose ground in India due to its inherent weaknesses, and esoteric practice of Vajrayana and Mantrayana maligning the image of Buddhism. The present book, namely, Buddhism and Vedanta (Contrast and Similarity), critically examining the aforesaid facts, thoroughly discusses rise and growth of Buddhism and its inclination towards Vedic philosophy. 2017ABOUT THE BOOK:- The book looks at different perspectives by different disciplines like Biology, Psychology and Philosophy for answers to the questions that have intrigued us: where are we, what are we, why are we here. How is the nature of the human being depicted by different disciplines and different philosophical explorations? Why is it important to know this? It is for a way to live our lives that enhances our own development. Drawing from Buddhist views, it comes to the conclusion that we have to recognise our connections to the rest of the species, our connections to the world and to the cosmos, treat all beings and each other with love and compassion and nurture the earth that sustains us. 2021About The Book -: I have endeavoured in this book to make not only the Story but the teaching of the Buddha intelligible and human, so that those who wish to understand one of the greatest, facts in history may not find themselves entangled in the mazes of scholastic terms, and may perhaps be enabled to realise its strange coincidences with modern psychology and certain scientific verities. It is, at all events, a Truth which influenced not only the mightiest thinkers of Greece and Rome, but also the beginnings of Christian teaching—which it antedated by five or six hundred years. It may well claim kindred with all the great faiths, persecuting and opposing none which differ with it, and this for reasons which are easily seen in the teachings themselves. In relation to its noble and scientific austerity no words are needed. It any Buddhist scholars should look into this book they will recall the immense difficulty of (so to speak) translating their work for the public, especially where the words of one language often fail to represent the thought of another.
