Il libro è una contro-inchiesta relativa al triplice delitto, avvenuto in Vaticano il 4 maggio 1998, che costò la vita al neo-comandante della Guardia svizzera pontificia colonnello Alois Estermann, a sua moglie Gladys Meza Romero, e al giovane vice caporale Cédric Tornay. Nella prima parte ("Sangue e bugie con 'certezza morale'"), il libro ricostruisce gli accadimenti subito successivi al rinvenimento dei tre cadaveri. Nella seconda parte ("L'agnello sacrificale"), vengono analizzate tutte le informazioni fornite dalla Santa Sede in merito a dinamica, autore e movente del triplice delitto. La terza parte del libro ("Per la verità") rivela i numerosi retroscena che hanno determinato la strage, arrivando a individuarne il retroterra, il possibile movente e la probabile dinamica. In appendice, la signora Muguette Baudat (madre del presunto omicida Cédric Tornay) racconta la sua battaglia.
