The first Russian edition of Carl Faith's landmark two-volume treatise on ring and module theory translated from the original English published by Springer as volumes 190 and 191 of the "Grundlehren der mathematischen Wissenschaften" series "Algebra: Rings Modules and Categories I" 1973 and "Algebra II: Ring Theory" 1976. Faith a professor at Rutgers University produced in this work one of the standard comprehensive references on noncommutative ring theory module theory and category-theoretic methods in algebra covering topics from tensor products and flat modules through Morita theory and the Picard group in the first volume to modules of finite length semilocal rings and the Jacobson radical quasi-injective modules and self-injective rings projective covers and perfect rings Morita duality and quasi-Frobenius rings in the second. The Soviet translation was undertaken by a team of four translators under the editorship for the first volume of Lev Anatolievich Skornyakov a leading Soviet ring theorist with the second volume edited by Grigory Zuckerman.
