The authors assert that Portugal is and has been since 1928 when Salazar et up his "New State" in imitation of Mussolini a fascist state. It is an unpleasant fact that Britain today gives formal support and aid to one of the most repressive regimes in Europe--a regime under which violence and exploitation of the people of Portugal are matched by violence and exploitation of the people of Angola Mozambique and Guine Portugal's extensive African possessions. Following the 25 April coup in Portugal in 1974 and the subsequent negotiations between the new Portuguese government and the liberation movements the right of the colonies to full and immediate independence was acknowledged.
